Did you ever work on a DIY home renovation project or even on a construction site, and a bubble level just couldn’t work out? Naturally, there are more innovative solutions on the market than that. Today we want to share our review of the Huepar S04CG with you, which is a modern 360° self-leveling cross-line laser level. Never worked with laser levels? It’s basically a device that projects straight lines and therewith supports you to stay straight as well as you do your work.

What’s interesting about the Huepar S04CG?

The Huepar S04CG lets you connect your smartphone with the device via Bluetooth by using the free Huepar app. The laser tool is able to connect up to two phones at the same time, no matter if you’re using Android or iOS. This helps you to control the laser level without the need to keep standing next to the device just to operate it. If you’re not that keen to use a smartphone, you can still use the remote control, which is included.

As far as power consumption goes, the Huepar S04CG comes with a 2600mAh li-ion battery (lasts up to five hours) but also allows you to use a set of 4 AA alkaline batteries (lasts up to a half-hour), which you can bring with you as backup, just in case you’re going for a longer project. If you want, you can also use the power cable and keep the system stationary until you’re done with your work, even after your batteries are long gone. By the time we unboxed everything we had received from Huepar, we couldn’t help ourselves but turn everything on for a deluxe laser show. Technology testers deserve a bit of fun now and then, too, am I right?

What can you do with the Huepar S04CG?

This laser tool provides four 360° layers of leveling rays. With that, you can cover a large number of jobs, and by using this device, you can get work done a lot faster and a lot more precisely than more traditional means. You can use the top module for installation work on the ceiling too.

The advantage of using the Huepar S04CG like that is that you don’t even need to bother taking out the bubble level and try to make markings with a pencil because once you’ve set the laser up correctly, it will stay that way and keep the position marked for you steadily. You only need to place the system on the ground, and the bright green laser lights will project lines all around to aid you.

If you use the laser that projects down to the ground, this could, for instance, help you with laying out tiles. The vertical laser lines can be used for paint jobs or for making sure whatever you mount to the wall is straight. Using the app (Android, iOS) over Bluetooth helped with the controlling as well. Especially when you’re just on your own, you don’t want to stop your work all the time just to re-adjust the level repeatedly.

So what are all the pros about using the Huepar laser level?

Even before you see the device for the first time, Huepar makes you feel that you bought a professional tool, as it comes in a very handy hard case that protects it from harm and makes the set quite portable. Besides this practical advantage, it simply looks a whole lot better when you go somewhere and bring your tools in a neat hard case. Once you open the case, the product directly gives you the feeling that you bought something useful. It looks nice and rugged. Just like a professional tool should look.

Once you take it out of the box, you can directly give it a go. The battery is charged for you, and you don’t need to wait a long time before you can try it out. If things are very urgent, you could directly go to a job as soon as you purchase the device. Even if your constructions site is rather dirty and dusty, you don’t need to worry either. The Huepar S04CG is IP54 certified to protect your investment. What does that mean? If you check the certifications, the exact wording is “protected from limited dust ingress.” and “protected from water spray from any direction.” That should certainly help.

The manual includes guidance to use the product in six languages being English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, as well as Russian. That’s great, but the product is also not that complicated to operate. You’ll quickly understand what’s what and how you can use the laser level properly to get work done quickly. The self-leveling mode automatically sets itself up in a few seconds and can help to speed things up in most situations, but there is also a manual mode in case you need to make adjustments yourself. Both modes can be used without any problems.

When checking the system and accessories, we quickly spotted that all components come with a USB Type-C port as it is the new standard for electronic equipment. It’s nice to see that a modern tool manufacturer has quickly adapted to new standards like that to charge up the remote control and the battery in the tool as well. If you have a more or less current smartphone, you might as well use that charger and cable when you’re in a pinch—compliments to Huepar for including these modern USB Type-C ports.

Another innovation that is also worth mentioning is that the Huepar S04CG also comes with an LCD which provides important information to you. As far as I know, this is the first time a company has introduced the usage of an LCD with this level of information displayed. It indicates its current state and provides information about the system, such as the battery level and the pendulum lock’s state, to see whether it’s currently locked or not unlocked, as well as the angle of slope. However, you can certainly also use the aforementioned app to get a lot of things done. The connection is established in a few taps on your phone, and on top of the six languages that are included in the manual, the app also contains Simplified Chinese as an extra language. The horizontal and vertical laser lines can be managed via the power indicator on the device and alternatively with the app or remote control.

Is there anything that’s not so good?

Generally, the product has no problems that would be a red flag to anyone, I suppose. There are merely thoughts on areas with some room for improvement that Huepar might upgrade when they release a new product. The multifunctional bracket that is included in the package is made of plastic, and while it surely works, it might last a bit longer if it was made of more sturdy material.

The working distance of the laser lines is ≥20m and ≥40m with a detector. While this is certainly sufficient for home use and for smaller construction sites, it might not be enough for large and complex building projects. Is that a problem? Not really, because this is absolutely fine for the users who are in scope, being people like you and me who might be working on a home project, and not people who build a groundscraper, obviously.

The set includes many useful pieces of accessories, but there is no laser protection eyewear included. So you can either get protection gear separately or just pay attention to what you’re doing. The laser is “only” class 2 and considered safe for operation, but you can evaluate that yourself to match your work style and environment. There is also no tripod included, so in case you need one, you’ll also have to get that on your own.

S04CG specifications

Certainly you also might want to check into the tech specs and find out all the facts and figures. Here’s what we gathered from Huepar.

Summary

I thought that the product appeared like a professional tool to me, and it kept all its promises. Every function works nicely, and the tool is not difficult to operate either. The quality of the product is great, and the solution brought a lot of nice innovations as well. I don’t think that I ever saw another laser level that would let you also connect your smartphone via Bluetooth to operate it. And to end with a positive note, the Huepar S04CG has an MSRP of $249.79. That’s roughly half the price of a comparable product from DeWalt or Bosch. Definitely great value for your money here.
