When it comes to automated home cleaning, the ultimate dream is a completely hands-off experience. SwitchBot markets the K11+ as the world’s smallest robot vacuum, promising to clean where bulky competitors cannot. We have had it running through its paces in the TechAcute lab to see if a smaller footprint translates to better cleaning, or just new compromises. The short answer is that the K11+ is a genuinely great help around the house, but you should not throw out your manual vacuum just yet.

Unmatched size and surprising power

The most defining feature of the K11+ is its remarkably compact size. Measuring just 24.8 cm (9.8 inches) in diameter and 9.2 cm (3.6 inches) tall, it easily squeezes between tight chair legs and navigates narrow gaps that standard vacuums avoid. However, it is worth noting that while the width is tiny, the height is fairly average, so it will not necessarily sneak under ultra-low sofas any better than a regular model.

Despite its small size, it packs a considerable punch. SwitchBot upgraded the suction power to 6,000 Pa, a massive jump from older models, and the raw pulling power is impressive for its class. It picks up dust and crumbs with ease. However, there is a physical quirk to its design. The side exhaust is quite strong and occasionally blows debris into areas the robot has already cleaned. Because of this, it will not replace your manual vacuuming entirely, but it significantly extends the time between your deep cleaning sessions.

Handling carpets and drop-offs

One of our initial concerns with such a small device was how it would handle varied terrain, but it proved highly capable. The 6,000 Pa suction works hard on carpets and rugs, delivering a deep, impressive clean. Of course, carpets can get nasty depending on how well they are maintained over time, but from a vacuuming and navigation standpoint, the K11+ handles them effectively.

Cliff Sensor

You also do not have to worry about this tiny robot taking a tumble down your stairs. It is equipped with drop sensors that easily detect gaps, such as the beginning of a staircase, prompting the vacuum to stop and turn around safely. If you still do not entirely trust the hardware sensors around a tricky ledge or a messy room, you can simply draw a virtual wall or a no-go zone directly into the app’s floorplan for absolute peace of mind.

Navigation and app control

The K11+ uses LiDAR and infrared sensors for mapping and navigation. For the most part, it does an okay job finding its way around. However, it is not flawless in practice. During our testing, it would sometimes do something unexpected, get temporarily lost, or stop working entirely, even when there was no visible problem. On a few occasions, it even managed to close the very doors it needed to pass through to return to its charging dock.

The companion app, on the other hand, is a highlight. We love that it lets you save several floor maps. You can easily carry the robot upstairs without it overwriting your main floor plan. There is also a fun remote-control function that lets you steer the vacuum from your phone, like a game. It works well, though it highlights a missing hardware feature. If the K11+ had a built-in camera, you could drive it remotely without having to stand in the same room. That is something we would love to see in a future iteration.

Maintenance and the mopping gimmick

If you want the scheduled cleaning routines to work flawlessly, you have to keep up with maintenance. If there are pets or people with long human hair in the household, you will need to manually untangle and cut hair from the main roller brush about once a week. The more hair there is on your floors, the harder it gets to leave the job entirely to the robot. It is important to note that this is a general problem across the entire robot vacuum product category, not a specific flaw of the K11+ model itself. However, if you neglect this routine, the robot will eventually stop its cycle, idle around, and drain its battery without finishing the job.

There is another handling quirk to be aware of. If your floor is already slightly dirty or unmopped before the cycle starts, the robot’s wheels will accumulate grime. Because it often follows the exact same routes, this can eventually leave visible dirt trails along your walls. You actually need to give your floors a thorough manual cleaning before letting the K11+ take over the daily maintenance.

The device also technically features a mopping function using disposable wipes. While we understand that many buyers want to see this feature on a spec sheet, the implementation here is highly gimmicky. It is essentially a drag across the floor. In its current state, the wet mopping is simply not acceptable for real-world use. Stick to the vacuuming features, which are very good.

The self-emptying base station

One of the strongest points of the K11+ package is the base station. SwitchBot managed to make the dock considerably smaller than the one that came with previous iterations. The new station measures a highly compact 24 x 18 x 25 cm (9.4 x 7.1 x 9.8 inches), making it incredibly easy to hide in a corner or small apartment.

The auto-emptying function works flawlessly. It sucks the dirt out of the robot and into a 4-liter dust bag tucked inside the dock’s wood-tone cover. We have zero complaints here. If you are feeling frugal and want to save money on replacement bags, you can even manually empty the reusable bag into your larger outside trash bin.

Cost of ownership: What to expect

When buying a robot vacuum, you are also signing up for a subscription of sorts for the consumable parts. Luckily, the K11+ keeps these hidden costs fairly manageable. The primary expense will be the dust bags for the base station. Because the base holds a massive 4-liter bag, SwitchBot notes it only needs to be changed approximately every 90 days, depending on how often it runs.

Replacement parts such as side brushes, main rollers, and filters will also need to be replaced periodically to keep the 6,000 Pa suction working optimally. You can easily find these official replacement kits online. Just keep in mind that the disposable mopping pads will add up quickly if you choose to use that feature, which we recommend skipping anyway.

TechAcute pro tip: Prepping your space

To get the most out of the K11+, you need to set it up for success. We highly recommend doing a thorough manual vacuuming and wet mopping of your entire floor plan before the very first scheduled run. Because the robot travels the same paths frequently, any existing grime will stick to its wheels and create dirt trails along your walls. Starting with a perfectly clean floor prevents this.

You will also want to perform a quick cable check before it leaves the dock. While the sensors are decent, rogue charging cables and stray socks can still trip it up. Picking those up takes ten seconds and ensures you do not come home to a stuck robot with a drained battery.

Who should buy this (and who should skip it)

The SwitchBot K11+ is tailor-made for people living in smaller apartments, townhomes, or places packed with tight furniture arrangements. If you constantly find yourself struggling to clean between dining chair legs or navigate narrow hallways, the incredibly small diameter of this vacuum will be a game-changer. The ability to save multiple floor maps also makes it a solid pick for multi-story homes.

On the other hand, you should probably skip this model if you have an incredibly large, open-concept house with very few obstacles. The side exhaust blowing debris around might prove frustrating in wide-open spaces, and the smaller battery means it will need more frequent charging breaks during massive jobs. Furthermore, if you truly need a device that vacuums and mops well simultaneously, the gimmicky mop implementation here will leave you disappointed.

The pros and cons of the K11+

To summarize our findings from the test lab, here is a quick breakdown of what works and what falls short. These are the main points you need to consider before adding the device to your cart.

  • Unbeatable compact size for tight spaces

  • Very strong 6,000 Pa suction power that handles carpets well

  • Reliable, compact self-emptying base station

  • Save multiple floor maps and set virtual walls easily in the app

  • Side exhaust can sometimes blow dirt away from the robot

  • Occasional navigation glitches and getting stuck

  • The mopping function is gimmicky and not useful

  • Requires frequent manual maintenance for pet and human hair

Ultimately, the pros heavily outweigh the cons, provided you set the right expectations. It is a fantastic supplementary cleaning tool, not an absolute replacement for a traditional vacuum.

Pricing, competition, and final verdict

The K11+ carries an official retail price of 399.99 EUR in the EU and 399 USD in the US. However, SwitchBot heavily discounts its products, and you can frequently find it on sale for around 259 EUR or 269 USD. If you are looking at the older K10+ Pro to save some cash, the K11+ is usually worth the slight price bump for the doubled suction power and the much smaller base station.

Before you go: SwitchBot Curtain – Automating Your Curtains

The SwitchBot K11+ is a powerful, incredibly compact cleaning tool that fits where other vacuums simply cannot. The strong suction and reliable self-emptying base make it a great contender for smaller spaces. Just be prepared to act as a supervisor. Between untangling hair, rescuing it from closed doors, and wiping down the wheels, it requires a bit of manual intervention to keep it running smoothly.
