Why Is Swearing on Social Media Now Trending?

-

You may have noticed that more and more people are swearing on social media these days. Is this a trend that’s here to stay, or is it just a fad? Is this normal nowadays? Or is it even celebrated with additional engagement from the audience? Let’s check what things look like right now.

Swearing on social media – trend or bad style?

No matter if it’s Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, LinkedIn, or another social media platform – It’s no secret that social media has changed the way we communicate with each other. In the past, people would only swear in person if they were angry or upset. Now, however, it’s not uncommon to see people swearing in their social media posts, even if they’re not angry or upset. So what’s behind this trend?

Not holding back behind a screen

One theory is that people feel more comfortable swearing on social media because they’re not face-to-face with the person they’re communicating with. This allows them to let loose and swear without worrying about offending anyone. Another theory is that people are simply following the lead of celebrities and other public figures who are increasingly using profanity in their social media posts. Whatever the reason, it’s clear that swearing on social media is becoming more and more common.

People like to see unfiltered emotions from others

It’s also worth noting that many people actually enjoy seeing profanity on social media. In a world where we’re constantly bombarded with filtered and perfect images, it can be refreshing to see someone expressing themselves in an unfiltered way. For some people, this makes the person seem more relatable and down-to-earth. Additionally, seeing someone swear can be a sign that they’re being genuine and honest in their posts.

Swearing is seen as a way of showing strength and confidence

In some cases, people see swearing as a sign of strength and confidence. For example, if someone is constantly putting down others or bragging about their achievements, they may be seen as tryhard or insecure. On the other hand, if someone can take a joke and laugh at themselves, they’re often seen as being more confident and secure. In this way, swearing can be seen as a way of adding personality to your social media posts and making them more interesting to read.

Swearing can be seen as a way of challenging norms and standing out from the crowd

In our society, there are a lot of taboos surrounding profanity. For some people, breaking these taboos is a way of challenging the status quo and standing out from the crowd. In a world where everyone is trying to fit in, swearing can be seen as a way of making a statement and showing that you’re not afraid to be different. On social media, this can be a powerful way to get attention and stand out from the rest of the noise.

Swearing on social media can be used to show that you’re not afraid to speak your mind

In our society, there are a lot of people who are afraid to speak their minds. This is especially true when it comes to controversial topics like religion and politics. However, social media has given people a platform to express their opinions without fear of retribution. As a result, more and more people are using profanity on social media as a way of showing that they’re not afraid to speak their minds.

It can be used to create a sense of intimacy with the audience

Finally, it’s worth noting that swearing can also be used to create a sense of intimacy with the audience. When someone swears, it shows that they’re comfortable enough with the person they’re talking to let down their guard and be themselves. In a world where we often feel disconnected from others, this can be a powerful way to create a sense of closeness and intimacy.

Overall, there are a lot of different reasons why people may be swearing on social media. In some cases, it may be seen as a way of expressing themselves more freely. In other cases, it may be seen as a way of challenging norms and standing out from the crowd. Whatever the reason, it’s clear that swearing on social media is becoming more and more common.

Conclusion

Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no denying that swearing on social media is trending right now. It remains to be seen whether this trend will continue or fizzle out over time. However, one thing is for sure: social media has definitely changed the way we communicate with each other. Is it good style to swear? I’d say you should remain authentic as well as possible. If you swear IRL you can swear on social media. If you avoid swearing while around others IRL, then there’s no reason to adapt this trend just for a bit more attention.

Personally, I like to swear just for myself and I don’t mind others swearing either IRL or on social media, but I won’t instill emotion in a post, that was not there, to begin with just to pump up engagement. I know emotion drives engagement but I’d prefer to stick to positive emotion or stay neutral. Beyond that, I think that there’s a huge difference between “innocent” swearing about a situation or a thing, rather than using curse words towards people or organizations. There’s always a person behind every social media account and they don’t need curses.
