The iconic British characters Wallace & Gromit created by Aardman Animations are beloved across the entire world. Whether they’re greeting us from the movie screen, comic books, or video games, the affable duo of a man and his anthropomorphic dog has been bringing us joy since the 1990s. Now, they even have an adventure game for everyone to enjoy that features augmented reality for its gameplay.
Wallace & Gromit: The Big Fix-Up is a brand-new adventure of the duo. The premise revolves around their new company, Spick & Spanners. They get a contract to clean up the city of Bristol – the home city of Aardman – to help a mayoral candidate win an election.
Immerse yourself in Wallace & Gromit’s world
The game is the first time in Wallace & Gromit’s universe where the player is part of the story. Players are invited to help “fix-up” the city through a recruitment drive. In addition to AR, Wallace & Gromit: The Big Fix-Up utilizes XR, in-character phone calls, comic strips, and other cool features.
“We believe it’s a first-of-its-kind experience, part of our vision to harness multiple technologies, media types, and formats to tell enhanced, collaborative and immersive stories in real-time,” said co-founder of Fictioneers collaboration Scott Ewings. Fictioneers is a co-developed of Wallace & Gromit: The Big Fix-Up, and is a collaboration between PotatoStudios, TinyRebelGames, and Sugar Creative. They created the AR experience of the city of Bristol using the 3D-mapping platform Fantasmo.
The Wallace & Gromit: The Big Fix-Up is voiced by British actors Miriam Margoyles and Jim Carter. The AR features would allow people from the other side of the world to experience Bristol as they follow the characters’ adventures across it. Currently, the game is available on iOS and Android devices in the U.K., USA, and Canada.
