The Witcher Game Is Getting a Remake – Here’s What We Know

-

CD PROJEKT RED, the company behind the Witcher game series and Cyberpunk 2077, has just announced that a team is working on a remake of the original The Witcher game. The new version will include all of the content from the original game, as well as updated graphics and gameplay. This is great news for fans of the Witcher series who want to revisit the early days of Geralt’s journey. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

The Witcher, CD PROJEKT RED’s acclaimed RPG trilogy, is getting a modern remake of its 2007 first game. The project was codenamed “Canis Majoris” during the studio’s Strategy Update earlier this month. To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the first Witcher game, CD PROJEKT RED has announced that The Witcher Remake is currently in development. They have also shared some initial details about the project.

Who’s working on the Witcher remake?

Fool’s Theory, a game development studio specializing in role-playing games, is currently developing the title from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5 technology. CDPR is creating a new toolset for the Witcher saga, which will be used for this project. The core team consists of experienced developers who worked on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and CD PROJEKT RED is providing a creative direction. The project is still in its early stages of development.

Seeing how popular The Witcher show on Netflix got, it’s likely that there will be a lot of people going to try the remake of the original The Witcher, even if they never played the old version. To some, this might seem like a good idea to start with part one of a series, rather than starting the games with the latest installment The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Of course, there is also an age gap among gamers today, which simply were too young in 2007 and not able to play video games, so there will be new fans of the new old title as well.

While no release date has been announced, CD PROJEKT RED has stated that more information will be shared in the future. For now, Witcher fans can look forward to revisiting Geralt’s earlier adventures with updated graphics and gameplay. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.

Thoughts from the key people of the Witcher remake

Adam Badowski, the Head of Studio at CD PROJEKT RED states, “The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger,” … “Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.”

Fool’s Theory CEO Jakub Rokosz adds, “I am very happy that my professional paths have crossed again with fellow developers from the time of working together on The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3. Especially when it’s a remake of a project that is so close to our hearts,” … “We are excited to join forces with CD PROJEKT RED, and our goal is to give players another great game from the iconic Witcher series.”
