Need a new friend for your setup or cozy corner? For Pokémon fans, bringing a piece of that world into our own has always been part of the appeal. From games to collectibles, the franchise offers countless ways to connect with its iconic characters. The French brand Teknofun (a Madcow Entertainment brand) is adding to that with its officially licensed Pokémon collection, a series of decorative lights that serve as charming display pieces rather than functional lamps. They’re designed to add atmosphere to a gaming setup, a collector’s shelf, or a bedside table.

We had the opportunity to test out three distinct products from this lineup: the Bulbasaur light, the Gengar night light, and a large Gengar figure light. Thanks to Teknofun for providing these samples, which represent different product lines within their collection.

While we focused on these three, they give us a good indication of the quality and design philosophy behind the entire range, which also includes fan favorites like Charmander, Squirtle, Eevee, and Pikachu. So, how do these decorative tech items hold up? Let’s take a closer look.
Bulbasaur light: Dreamy and well-crafted
First up is the Bulbasaur light (MSRP: €44,99), a piece that immediately conveys a sense of calm and whimsy. The design features a sleeping Bulbasaur nestled on a tree trunk, surrounded by several glowing mushrooms. The overall effect is dreamy and cute, making it a standout decoration.

The build quality is impressive. The material feels solid, avoiding the cheap plastic feel that can sometimes plague licensed merchandise. The paint application is flawless, with clean lines and accurate colors that do justice to the beloved Pokémon. When turned on, the mushrooms and Bulbasaur’s bulb emit a soft, gentle glow.

This model offers two lighting modes: a fixed light and a slow, pulsing option that enhances the atmospheric feel. A small button controls these functions, which I found a bit hard to press. It is a very minor issue on an otherwise beautiful product. For power, you can use either three AAA batteries (not included) or the included USB-C cable. This dual-option is a great feature, allowing you to place it anywhere for temporary display or plug it in for permanent use on a desk or shelf.
Gengar night light: A spooky silhouette
Next is the Gengar night light (MSRP: €29.99), which features a circular design with Gengar’s silhouette against a moonlit backdrop. This piece is versatile; it can stand on a flat surface or be hung on a wall, giving you more placement options.

During the day, it’s a lovely piece of art that looks great even when off. At night, the backlit moon creates a spooky ambiance that perfectly captures Gengar’s ghostly nature. The light effect is subtle. Personally, I think it would be even cooler if the Gengar silhouette itself were more illuminated, but that might go against its purpose as an atmospheric night light.

In terms of build, this light feels a bit lighter than the Bulbasaur model. However, since it’s a stationary decoration, this doesn’t impact its functionality or appeal. Like the Bulbasaur light, it can be powered by either batteries or a USB-C cable, which is convenient. It is a well-executed decorative item for fans of the ghost-type Pokémon.
Gengar figure light: A large and menacing but kinda cute presence
The final product we tested is a large Gengar figure light (MSRP: €24,99). This is a substantial piece, larger than most typical Pokémon figures, and it makes an immediate impression. The build quality is solid, and the figure itself is well-made, capturing Gengar’s menacing grin perfectly.

When switched on, the figure emits a vibrant purple glow from within. One interesting observation came during photography. The camera picked up an uneven light frequency, creating a flicker in photos that is not visible to the naked eye. When lit, you can also notice slight unevenness in the paint application from the inside, but it is completely unnoticeable during the day.

A key thing for buyers to know is that this specific model is battery-operated only. It requires a CR2032 (one included) battery and lacks a USB-C port for continuous power. This makes it more of a portable decorative item than a permanent fixture in a setup. Despite this, it’s a fantastic figure for any Gengar fan, and the added light feature makes it a unique collectible.
Other products in the Teknofun collection
While we focused on Bulbasaur and Gengar, Teknofun’s Pokémon collection is extensive. The company offers similar light-up figures for the other Kanto starters, Charmander and Squirtle, which are part of the same product line as the Bulbasaur light. Based on the quality of the sample we reviewed, it is reasonable to expect these models to feature the same solid build and charming design.

Beyond Pokémon, they also sell products from Hello Kitty, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, and many others. Some products combine functions, like the alarm clocks that also serve as night lights. These multifunction devices typically offer a digital display for time, date, and room temperature, along with an LED light feature.

Power options vary across the range, with many offering both battery and USB connectivity, so it is always a good idea to check the specifications for the specific product you’re interested in.

Teknofun’s Pokémon decorative lights are a delightful addition to any fan’s collection. They succeed in their primary goal: to be charming, atmospheric decorative pieces that celebrate the world of Pokémon. It is important to remember that these are not meant to be used as a primary source of light and should be used more for their aesthetic appeal. This makes them ideal for any gamer setup or cozy space. You can find details and other products on their website and on Amazon if you prefer that.
