Today is Star Wars Day. On social media, you can find plenty of memes and fandom posts under hashtags such as #MayThe4thBeWithYou or the short version #MayThe4th. This is due to a pun, that much might be clear, but where does this actually originate from? Who invented this special day for geek celebration?

The first usage goes back to 1979 but it hasn’t actually been celebrated annually until 2011 but then rapidly got very popular and year by year more people and even companies plan some witty Star Wars related memes and posts.
