Beijing, China, August 8, 2019 — After a successful Nubia X introduction at the CES announcement, earlier this year, the Chinese smartphone maker launches a double-display phone in China this month and later in other regions.
After hitting the market with a smartwatch and smartphone hybrid wearable only months ago, Nubia is now back at it with another innovation in the industry. The Nubia team has thought of something I did not come across before. They built their new Z20 smartphone to feature a front and a rear display.
Now, what do you say to that? I am puzzled myself, and I can’t wait to see that in action. It’s also clear as daylight that such a hardware feature must be adequately supported by the underlying OS and the apps that run on the phone. There wouldn’t be a massive gain from this only being an extended decoration.
Here are all the known tech specs in all their glory
- Bezel-less 6.42″ FHD+ display
- Fully-functional 5.1” rear display
- Triple Camera Setup (main + ultra wide-angle + telephoto)
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus
- 4000mAh battery with up to 27W PD Fast Charge
- Up to 8GB RAM + 512GB ROM
- UFS 3.0 Storage
What’s it all good for?
Nubia states, “[our] dual-screen technology isn’t just about photography — it’s about changing the way we use smartphones. Users can choose to have each screen operate independently, allowing for quick-switching between games, messages, apps, and more. The rear screen also doubles as an always-on display, and rear on-screen triggers can be custom mapped for superior Android gaming.
The Z20 also adds Red Magic’s beloved Game Space hub, making it a smart choice for serious gamers. The Nubia Z20 features a mirror-polished metal frame and curved sapphire glass for elegance and durability. The rear screen features a blue-light-blocking coating for safer, more comfortable nighttime viewing. The rear screen’s rhythmic lighting effects can be customized for calls, music, games, and more.”
The new Nubia Z20 will be available in their home market, in China, starting with a launch at the 16th of August for 3499 Yuen which is about 500 USD. The release for the US, Canada, and the EU is planned for September 2019. A price for these regions has not yet been confirmed.
We are standing by for more info from Nubia and hope that we can get our hands on a test unit soon to give you some more info about the Z20 double-display smartphone. Stay tuned!
