Which Were the Most Sold Nintendo Switch Games 2020?

-

What Nintendo Switch games sold well in 2020? Which Switch games are the most popular right now? The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling video game console in 2019 and 2020 worldwide. Considering the fact that both Sony and Microsoft launched their next-gen consoles in 2020, not everybody has expected Nintendo to prevail again last year.

Nintendo always has been a little different as far as their solution goes. While the Nintendo Switch is opening up more towards selling mainstream games as well on their platform in comparison to previous generations, some of the most popular franchises around call the Nintendo Switch their exclusive home.

But which games on the Nintendo Switch were sold the most around the globe? Seeing all the social media buzz, one could have thought that Animal Crossing: New Horizons would take the lead here, but the actual winner of the race for the most sold game for the Switch is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. What does the ranking look like in detail? Check the overview from Statista below.

The top 10 best selling games on Switch

10. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
9. Splatoon 2
8. Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!
7. Super Mario Party
6. Super Mario Odyssey
5. Pokémon Sword and Shield
4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Ranking the Nintendo Switch games as per million units sold in 2020, showing data as of December 2020:
Top selling Nintendo Switch game titles worldwide as of December 2020 statista statistics data
“With 33.4 million units sold, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the top-selling Nintendo Switch game based on lifetime sales as of December 2020. The Super Mario series, a mainstay of Nintendo gaming, accounts for almost half of the top-selling Nintendo Switch software titles of all time. Second-ranked Animal Crossing: New Horizons has nearly 31.2 million lifetime sales – a feat that is even more impressive as it is the only entry in the top list that was released in 2020.” – Jessica Clement, Statista

Not everybody considers the Japanese traditional brand to be on par with Sony and Microsoft. Yet, no matter how you want to think about Nintendo and their more or less family-friendly safe space, they still do well both in hardware sale as well as game sale year to year, and there is no indication of them slowing down anytime soon. What else will Nintendo come up with in the near and far future? Only time will tell, but we’ll be there to report more as it happens.
