Are you new to streaming or looking to start a podcast? What’s a good beginner mic? The world of audio equipment is vast and often intimidating at first. Luckily, we’re here to simplify things for you and test things out so you don’t have to. Today, we’re putting the spotlight on a product that has been gaining popularity among podcasters and streamers alike – the Maono DM30 RGB USB Microphone. We received a test unit from Maono, who were kind enough to use this sample as we prepared this review article.
Design and build
The Maono DM30 RGB Microphone, priced at an affordable $49.99, comes in four color options – black, white, pink, and purple, catering to a range of aesthetic preferences. Its small and portable design ensures that it does not commandeer too much space on your desk, making it a perfect fit for both cozy and RGB style gaming setups.
Maono DM30 RGB mic features
One of the standout features of this microphone is its controllable RGB lighting. You can customize the lighting with five adjustable dynamic multi-color gradients and seven static solid colors to match your mood or setup. The software and hardware offer real-time synchronization color adjustment, allowing you to change the lighting anytime. If you want to skip using the software altogether, this also works just fine.

The DM30 has a Cardioid pattern, which offers excellent off-axis noise suppression performance. This means that the microphone is not omnidirectional, and the user should face the front of the microphone for optimal voice capture. There’s also a mute button and light so you always know when you’re on and when you’re on mute.
Thanks to its all-metal body design and high-sensitivity condenser microphone core, the microphone also boasts high sensitivity. This design lets the microphone pick up a 24bit/48kHz high sampling rate, ensuring a smooth and clear audio experience.
Usability and connectivity
Usability is a significant factor when considering a microphone; the DM30 does not disappoint. The Maono-Link software provides various adjustable features like mic gain, headphone volume, mic tone, RGB lighting customization, equalizer, limiter, and compressor.

The DM30 has a USB-C port, a breath of fresh air, especially for laptops without the traditional USB type-A socket. This thoughtful inclusion ensures you can plug in the USB cable on any computer, but they also included a type-A adapter just in case. Additionally, the USB-C plug allows you to use the mic with your smartphone – a handy feature if you want to record on the go and your built-in smartphone mic isn’t up to the task.
