Logitech’s MX Master series has long been the gold standard for productivity mice, and the new MX Master 4 aims to continue that legacy. Following the MX Master 3S, which we tested before, this latest iteration introduces a refined design, updated materials, and new features. After several weeks of hands-on testing with a unit provided by Logitech, we can say this mouse is an evolution, not a revolution, but the changes it brings are meaningful. Thanks to Logitech for providing us with a test unit of this new product addition to their peripherals portfolio.

The most significant update is a departure from the soft-touch rubberized coating found on previous models. Instead, the MX Master 4 features a textured hard plastic shell with high-quality silicone side grips. This change addresses a common issue with older models, which can become sticky over time. The new surface feels different, almost futuristic at first, but quickly becomes pleasant and comfortable during long work sessions. It seems to resist dirt and oils from the skin and is noticeably easier to clean. While only extended use will confirm its long-term durability, our initial impression is that this is a significant step forward in build quality and longevity.
Under the hood: The technical specifications
The MX Master 4 is packed with technology designed for serious productivity. At its core is the Darkfield high-precision sensor, which offers a resolution of up to 8,000 DPI. This sensor is precise and adjustable, ranging from 50 DPI to 8,000 DPI in 50 DPI increments via the Logi Options+ software. This allows for smooth and accurate tracking on virtually any surface, including glass. For users with high-resolution or multiple-monitor setups, this level of precision is a key advantage.

A standout feature is the MagSpeed electromagnetic scroll wheel, which can automatically shift between a precise, line-by-line ratchet mode and a nearly silent free-spin mode capable of scrolling 1,000 lines per second. I also have to highlight the horizontal scroll wheel on the side. While this has been available on previous models, it has become indispensable in my daily workflow. It is a feature that, once experienced, is hard to live without.
Haptic feedback and the Actions Ring
A notable addition to this generation is the inclusion of haptic feedback. This provides a subtle vibration that adds a tactile dimension to scrolling and other software-driven actions. The haptics are enjoyable and have potential, especially when integrated with specific applications, such as Adobe Photoshop. However, its current use is limited. If this feature becomes more widely adopted in operating systems or popular applications, it could transform from a novelty into a genuinely useful tool. Imagine a subtle buzz on your mouse for a new message instead of an audible notification. The potential is there.

Logitech also introduced a new thumb button that activates the “Actions Ring”. This is a customizable radial menu within Logi Options+ software, providing quick access to application-specific shortcuts. It is a functional addition, but its utility will depend on your willingness to integrate it into your workflow. For users already accustomed to keyboard shortcuts, it may feel a bit gimmicky.
Connectivity and battery performance
Connectivity gets a modern update with a USB-C Logi Bolt receiver. The mouse supports both Bluetooth Low Energy and the Logi Bolt protocol, ensuring a stable and secure connection in crowded wireless environments. This dual connectivity allows you to pair the mouse with up to three devices and switch between them seamlessly.

Battery life remains a key strength of the MX Master series. The mouse is charged via a modern USB-C port and powered by a rechargeable Li-Po battery, which Logitech claims can last up to 70 days on a full charge. In our testing, the battery performance was excellent, living up to the brand’s reputation. You can use it for weeks on end, to the point where you might forget it even needs to be charged. A quick one-minute charge can also provide up to three hours of use, which is excellent for emergencies.
Is the MX Master 4 the right mouse for you?
The Logitech MX Master 4 is a premium mouse, accompanied by a corresponding price tag. The cost is currently around $ 120 on Amazon, which is a regular price for a good mouse that is absolutely worth what it delivers. It delivers an exceptional experience for productivity-focused users who demand precision, comfort, and a rich feature set. The refined materials not only improve the aesthetics, especially on the stylish grey model, but also promise better durability over the long term.

For new buyers in the market for a high-end productivity mouse, the MX Master 4 is an easy recommendation. It represents the best of what Logitech has to offer, combining proven features with thoughtful improvements. The ergonomic design is comfortable for all-day use, and the extensive customization options available through Logi Options+ software further enhance its usability.

If you are an owner of a previous model, the decision to upgrade is more nuanced. The core experience remains familiar. However, the move to a more durable and easier-to-clean surface material is a compelling reason to consider the upgrade, particularly if you have experienced issues with the finish on older mice. The MX Master 4 feels like a product that has learned from its predecessors, resulting in a more refined and robust tool for getting work done.
