A power-packed gaming laptop with great features. Lenovo Legion has done it again with their latest gaming laptop, the Lenovo Legion 7i and we prepared this review for you. This powerful machine is jam-packed with features that are sure to make any gamer happy. With a 16″ WQXGA display, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card, and Intel Core i9 CPU, this laptop can handle even the most demanding games out there. Not to mention, the fantastic LED lighting on the keyboard and sides of the machine. Let’s check right into the details of this (not so) little bundle of joy.

We’ve been so lucky to be chosen by Lenovo to receive one of the latest gaming laptops for testing. In this article, we’ll share our findings with you and highlight some of the main features in case you’re currently looking to buy new gamer gear.

Specs

The Lenovo Legion 7i is a powerful gaming machine with the latest technology. With 32 GB DDR5 4800MHz (2 x 16 GB) memory and 2 TB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 storage, it can easily handle any game you throw at it. And with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card and Intel Core i9 CPU, it can easily handle any game you throw at it.

But that’s not all – the Lenovo Legion 7i also has a beautiful 16″ WQXGA (2560 x 1600), IPS, Anti-Glare, Non-Touch, HDR400, 100%sRGB, 500 nits display with a 165Hz refresh rate. And on top of all that, Lenovo has added some amazing LED lighting to the keyboard and sides of the machine, giving it a sleek, stylish look that any gamer is sure to love.

The Lenovo Legion 7i also offers users a range of networking options. The RJ45 port allows for easy connection of network cables, giving gamers dependable and reliable access to the internet. For wireless connections, Lenovo has included an impressive WiFi 6E 2×2 AX module that supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.

As far as Windows Hello goes, you can use the power button as a fingerprint reader, but unfortunately, the webcam does not support face recognition to log into your operating system or other applications that support Windows Hello.

Design

The Lenovo Legion 7i’s design is nothing short of futuristic. The laptop has a sleek, streamlined body with a sturdy anodized aluminum Storm Grey chassis. The gaming laptop feels solid and well-built in your hands – Lenovo definitely didn’t skimp on the construction quality. On the back of the display, there’s Lenovo’s signature Legion logo which also lights up with the support of LEDs but there’s more.

The Lenovo Legion 7i’s LED light show is truly something to behold. Lenovo has gone all out with this laptop, and that includes the lighting effects. On the keyboard, there are individual LEDs that you can customize to your heart’s content. Choose from a variety of colors, patterns, and even gaming-specific lighting effects to really make your Lenovo Legion 7i stand out.

At first, I thought that this is only a nice gimmick, that looks fantastic but you grow tired of it after a few days and probably end up turning it off, but I was wrong. I keep using the animated LED effects and they are not irritating at all. I just love this and it’s one of the things that I’ll really miss after I have to ship the press sample back.

Performance

The Lenovo Legion 7i gaming laptop really shines when it comes to performance. From gaming to content creation, this laptop will never let you down. For gaming, the Lenovo Legion 7i is powered by an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card and Intel Core i9 CPU, allowing you to play even the most graphically intense games with no lag. And for content creators, the Lenovo Legion 7i offers a powerful set of tools to help you get your work done quickly and efficiently. With 32 GB DDR5 RAM, 2 TB SSD storage, and an excellent 16″ WQXGA display, this laptop is truly built for performance.

We tested a variety of games on the machine and found no issues in regard to performance. You can play older games with the “silent mode” and you can crank the unit up with the “power mode” that unleashes the beast within and also starts the powerful cooling systems to prevent a meltdown and to keep your game running. The cooling is not silent, but given what physically happens in the laptop, it’s not unreasonable. High-performance gaming always comes with the noise of cooling, so this does not make it something negative. A race motorbike is also not silent when going full speed. I think now I understand why Lenovo is partnering with Ducati from MotoGP.

Benchmark test results

The following benchmarks were carried out on performance mode with a power cable connected to the laptop, not running on battery. The operating system running during the time of the test was the latest Windows 11 built with no updates or patches pending. The latest hardware drivers were installed and all non-required tasks and applications were closed and disabled. During the benchmark, the laptop was not used for anything but running the benchmark.

Overall we can see that as far as the benchmarks from UL Solutions go, the scores for the Lenovo Legion 7i were way beyond the average for a gaming laptop and could partially even challenge the results of regular premium gaming rigs.

Summary

I hope you found our Lenovo Legion 7i review useful. The Lenovo Legion 7i gaming laptop is a powerful and stylish machine that will easily handle any game you throw at it. In the build we tested, Lenovo included an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GPU and Intel Core i9 CPU, providing excellent performance for gaming and content creation. It also features a beautiful 16″ WQXGA (2560 x 1600) display and customizable LED lighting, making it a fantastic choice for gamers who want both style and power. So if you’re looking for a gaming laptop that delivers maximum performance, check out Lenovo’s Legion 7i. If I had to reduce my opinion to a single phrase, I would say that the Legion 7i is pure joy whether you want to use it for games or as a content creator. 5 stars for this beast in my books.
