Relive the moments of the original Jurassic Park movie all by yourself? Such a game could be every fan’s dream come true, if it’s good. The Jurassic Park franchise continues to spark curiosity, both on-screen and in the gaming world, with its legendary story of humans contending with prehistoric forces. Now, Saber Interactive and Universal Products & Experiences say they are working on Jurassic Park: Survival, an upcoming single-player action-adventure that might invite fans back to Isla Nublar. The game is announced for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and, if all goes as the studio hopes, it could pick up the story the day after the pivotal events of the 1993 film.

A return to Isla Nublar?

At the heart of Jurassic Park: Survival could be a meticulous recreation of the island’s striking environments and lurking threats. Players might explore everything from the park’s iconic front gates to the ruined Visitor Center, experiencing the classic film setting in a new light.

According to the company, reactive dinosaur AI is expected to create a dynamic and suspenseful gameplay experience. While it’s easy to imagine running from a T-Rex in the movies, playing from a first-person perspective might challenge players to use stealth, quick thinking, and improvisation for survival.

Playing as Dr. Maya Joshi

Players could step into the role of Dr. Maya Joshi, an InGen scientist who is reportedly left stranded after the fallout of the original Jurassic Park disaster. Survival is the key theme, and the development team says players will need to help Maya solve environmental puzzles and outsmart dinosaurs using resources found on the island. Saber Interactive emphasizes that encounters might be shaped by adaptive AI, leading to tense and memorable dinosaur interactions.

What might gameplay be like?

Most impressions so far are based on teasers and information made public by the company; actual gameplay other than the trailer remains under wraps. From available footage and descriptions, Jurassic Park: Survival could blend first-person stealth, survival mechanics, and atmospheric horror. The project might offer a tension-filled experience reminiscent of Alien: Isolation (Creative Assembly, 2014), another survival game based on a storied movie franchise.

In both titles, players are unarmed and must use resourcefulness, stealth, and quick thinking to evade iconic threats, in this case, dinosaurs instead of the Xenomorph. Both games seem to focus on immersion through a first-person perspective, amplifying the sense of danger and unpredictability at every turn. Will players need to distract prehistoric predators with flares or rely on the environment to outsmart their pursuers? Such mechanics could be essential as they attempt to solve Isla Nublar’s many mysteries and survive another day.

Could this be a new standout title?

Naturally, questions remain about how Jurassic Park: Survival will deliver on its potential. If the attention to world-building and gameplay systems lives up to the promises, this might become a must-play adventure for Jurassic Park enthusiasts and newcomers alike. Could it be considered a memorable video game adaptation?
