Looking to enjoy gaming or movie nights on a big screen without a traditional TV? For this hands-on review, JMGO provided a press test unit of the N1S 4K projector so that we could put it through its paces in real-world use. When reviewing projectors, it is essential to judge them against other projectors, not televisions, since each category offers a unique viewing experience with its own trade-offs. Compact and feature-rich, the N1S 4K targets tech enthusiasts and home entertainment fans with 4K resolution, keystone correction, and impressively quiet operation.
JMGO, a well-known name in the Chinese electronics market, is recognized for its innovative projection technology. While strong at home, the brand is still working to establish itself internationally. This context adds depth to evaluating the N1S 4K’s positioning and appeal. Here’s our in-depth review based on hands-on testing.
Image quality
The quality of its visuals ultimately judges a projector, and the JMGO N1S 4K does not disappoint, within the scope of its category. While it’s important to compare projectors to other projectors (and not televisions), this model provides crisp and vibrant visuals. Colors are sharp and well-represented, making it suitable for a variety of uses, from movies to presentations.

However, there’s minor room for improvement in how it handles black tones in dark scenes. Night scenes or dimly lit environments in movies reveal slightly less detail than might be ideal. Despite this, the overall quality remains very good, especially when viewed in controlled lighting environments.
Ease of use
One area where the JMGO N1S 4K excels is usability. Setting up the projector is a straightforward process that even non-tech-savvy users can handle with ease. For those who seek guidance, the included manual and the device’s startup wizard make it exceptionally user-friendly. Something new that I haven’t come across before that’s also worth mentioning is the automatic eye protection of the projector. Whenever a person walks through the projection beam and looks into the bright lens, the system understands that and dims the light until the person leaves, and playback can be resumed with a button tap on the remote control.

The keystone correction feature is a highlight for the N1S 4K. The projector’s automated system does a strong job of ensuring the image stays rectangular, even when set up at tricky angles. Importantly, users retain full manual control and can fine-tune the correction themselves if the automatic adjustment isn’t perfect. This flexibility stands out in this price segment and lets you easily adapt the image to your specific needs. The Android TV interface feels familiar and intuitive to use, so that users can jump into streaming apps without any learning curve. However, the remote control could benefit from a backlight, which would make it easier to operate in low-light conditions.
Sound quality
The JMGO N1S 4K delivers a balanced and satisfying sound setup for its size. While the bass is physically absent, you still get great quality out of the speakers, whether watching movies or listening to music. One notable strength is the quiet operation of the projector itself, which means you don’t have to crank up the volume to drown out fan noise, a common issue with other models.

The built-in speakers, while not offering stereo or surround sound, deliver clear and rich audio that’s more than sufficient for casual use. For a deeper sound experience, external speakers can be easily connected, but many users will find the internal setup enjoyable enough for regular viewing.
Performance
From a performance perspective, the JMGO N1S 4K delivers a seamless viewing experience. Streaming and watching movies flow smoothly without any noticeable lag or interruptions. That said, the Android TV interface does experience some occasional lag during menu navigation. While this is worth mentioning, it’s a common limitation among similar devices, as performance prioritizes the video output over user interface responsiveness. This minor hitch is unlikely to detract from the overall experience, especially during actual video playback.
Portability and design
The JMGO N1S 4K is not only portable but also thoughtfully designed for quick deployment. Though it lacks a built-in battery, it supports rapid setup, allowing it to function effectively in various environments. The carrying case included with the projector is a welcome accessory, protecting the device during transport. Compact yet robust, this model fits into small spaces without compromising on functionality.

The integrated tilt-swivel mount is another noteworthy feature. This addition allows users to angle the projector effortlessly, whether for wall or ceiling projections, ensuring adaptability in diverse setups.
Brightness and viewing experience
For brightness, the N1S 4K excels in darker environments but falls short for daytime use or brightly lit rooms, which is, however, not unusual for projectors in this class. Although the 1100 ISO Lumens specification enables visibility in ambient light, movie enjoyment is significantly compromised without drawing curtains or dimming lights. The projector is best experienced in settings where lighting can be controlled. Its flexibility in screen size and projection distances ensures it adapts to varying spaces and viewing preferences without difficulty.
