Mobile gaming has this one disadvantage over playing on a computer or console. What do you think is that? In my opinion, it’s the fact that smartphones aren’t built for gaming. They are not nice to play, and while it might be okay for 15 minutes here and there, you are often likely to feel sore in some way or another after a prolonged period of playing a game. Enter the GameSir G8 Galileo Mobile Gaming Controller – a device that attempts to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of mobile gaming. But does it deliver on its promises? We’ve taken it for a spin to find out.

Testing out the GameSir G8 Galileo mobile controller

First things first. Thanks a lot to GameSir for providing us with a press sample of the G8 Galileo so we can test this product ourselves and write this review article. But what will you find once you unbox the device? The first thing you’ll notice about the G8 Galileo is its sleek silver design. It’s apparent that GameSir has put a lot of thought into ergonomics. The controller feels comfortable in your hands, almost like a console controller, making it a good fit for extended gaming sessions, even for big hands.

The G8 Galileo stands out with something they call Hall Effect sensing sticks, which offer 360° seamless pinpoint control. This is very useful for precision and durability that will satisfy all sorts of use cases I can think of when it comes to mobile gaming. In addition, the anti-friction glide rings enhance stick control, reducing stick grinding and extending the controller’s usage time.

Great for mobile and cloud gaming

But the innovation doesn’t stop there. The G8 Galileo features a cutting-edge movable Type-C port, ensuring a dependable connection to your gaming devices. This eliminates cable chaos and pesky disconnects, providing an unparalleled smooth gaming experience. Moreover, the controller boasts pass-through charging, allowing you to charge your device while using the controller, so you never have to worry about running out of battery mid-game.

One of the standout features of the G8 Galileo is its universal compatibility. With an extendable bridge from 110-185 mm in length and sufficient rear space (13 mm or below in depth), it accommodates a wide range of phone models, including the iPhone 15 series and Android devices. This adaptability makes it an excellent choice for mobile gamers using various devices.

Customization is another area where the G8 Galileo shines. The controller has two additional back buttons for on-the-fly mapping, allowing you to map in-game actions instantly. When using the GameSir App, you can create personalized controller profiles by mapping buttons, fine-tuning the D-pad diagonals, and adjusting sticks and trigger zones.

The G8 Galileo offers interchangeable magnetic detachable faceplates and customizable stick caps for those who like personalizing their gaming setup. These features allow you to match your unique style, keeping your gaming setup fresh and exhilarating. Yet, I have not seen any faceplates for purchase, and I hope they will offer them soon.

The G8 Galileo goes beyond just performance; it’s evident that the Laser-Engraved Texture Grips provide a firm grip and a comfortable and enjoyable gaming experience. Additionally, the High-Saturation Fluorescent Ink Buttons add a vibrant and eye-catching touch. One last thing I wanted to mention is that this controller works really well if you want to go for cloud gaming services that use the smartphone as a thin client. I tried it with the Xbox Cloud Gaming service that comes as part of the Xbox Game Pass, and that works really well in combination with this controller.

Is the G8 Galileo worth it?

Priced at $79.99 on Amazon, the GameSir G8 Galileo Mobile Gaming Controller is not the cheapest choice but a worthy investment for any serious gamer who seeks to upgrade their experience for mobile or cloud gaming. It combines innovation, comfort, precision, and style in one package, offering a good level of control and performance. Whether you’re navigating treacherous terrain or taking precise shots, the G8 Galileo guarantees an enhanced mobile gaming experience.
