Clicks Gives You Physical Keyboards for iPhones

-

Remember the days when keypads were the fad? Back then, that satisfying tactile sensation — not to mention that it made you look more professional — was something that everyone wanted. Of course, thanks to the rise of smartphones, keypads have become almost obsolete. Most phones today are just a full screen with the keyboard popping up at the bottom whenever we need it.

But if you’re the type who still wants that tactile feel of clicking away on your phone, Clicks Technology has created Clicks, a physical keyboard. The keyboard comes in the form of an iPhone case that users slip their phone into. Without the limitation that a built-in screen keyboard has, users will be able to see and do more with their smartphones.

The sensation of a physical keyboard

Clicks Technology’s co-founder, Michael Fisher shared his thoughts on why they created Clicks, saying that “it’s kind of odd that we abandoned physical buttons on the smartphone.” With the constant demand to be online all the time, using a smartphone is the easiest way to connect. However, dealing with the all-screen phone is not everyone’s cup of tea, and others who only need the call and text functions still prefer a feature phone. Some people find it easier to navigate with the touch of a keypad’s physical buttons.

Clicks is directly connected to the phone’s charging port without needing any special cord or Bluetooth connection. The physical keyboard also doesn’t need charging, providing users with unlimited and easy access to the product. It’s also equipped with a backlight for typing in low-light environments. Apart from that, the keyboard offers shortcuts like these:

  • CMD + H to navigate the home screen
  • CMD + Space to launch Search
  • Space bar to scroll through web pages

Clicks is priced at $139 for iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 Pro and $159 for iPhone 15 Pro Max. The product will be available for shipping starting in February and is available in two colors: BumbleBee and London Sky. Whether the company will offer the product beyond iPhone models remains to be seen.
