Verizon Works with Qualcomm, Razer to Create Razer Edge 5G

-

Mobile gaming has become popular over the past few years and is expected to become a billion-dollar industry by 2026. It’s no surprise why three tech giants — Verizon, Qualcomm, and Razer — have created a joint venture in the form of a handheld gaming console, the Razer Edge 5G.

The announcement came from Verizon executives as they revealed the partnership and teased Razer Edge 5G during the Mobile World Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada last September 28-30, 2022.

With the power of 5G and the latest gaming-centric silicon of Qualcomm, the device is expected to rock the console industry. Being an Android device, Razer Edge 5G will run and stream all the games on Google Play Store and cloud gaming services. Moreover, the Verizon 5G connectivity will make it the first one of its kind.

Things to expect

Last year, Qualcomm, in partnership with Verizon, created the Snapdragon G3X Gen 1 gaming platform. The handheld gaming device features two thumbsticks, a D-pad, and several buttons on either side of the display with several adaptive shoulder triggers. The Razer Edge 5G is built on this design, so we can expect similar specs and appearance.

To give you a picture of what the Razer Edge might look like, the Snapdragon G3X Gen 1 had a 6.65-inch OLED display, 120Hz refresh rate, Adreno GPU, active cooling, and a 6000mAh battery. Besides the features mentioned above, you can also expect this Android device to have a webcam, display port, and USB-C ports for VR.

Verizon also revealed that the Razer Edge 5G will have a 5G Ultra Wideband. With this, users can access games streamed from their consoles or over the cloud.

Verizon’s announcement on the Razer Edge 5G comes alongside its reveal of Verizon Receiver and the addition of NFL+. The new gaming console is expected to appear during RazerCon on October 15 when more information on it will be revealed. Until then, you can imagine how the device is going to be.
