I’m Back Roll Brings Digital Rolls for Analog Cameras

This year, we’ve been seeing a trend of nostalgia. From musicians coming back to do shows to the resurgence of flip phones and film cameras, the trend of 2026 being the new 2016 has had people take to social media platforms to share stories, photos, and videos from a decade ago. Following the current trend of digital cameras, vinyl records, and wired earphones, innovators are banking on nostalgia and good old vibes to launch old products with a modern twist. Creators Samuel Mello Medeiros and Filippo Nishino founded I’m Back to merge traditional photography and filming with modern technology, and they have recently launched I’m Back Roll.

Nostalgic and digital

I’m Back Roll acts like a traditional roll of film but with digital features, measuring approximately 4mm thick. This digital roll is made to be compatible with analog cameras, particularly for most 35mm film cameras, including Leica M and models from popular camera brands like Canon and Nikon, among others. The way you insert a digital roll is the same way you would put in an actual roll of film in a traditional analog camera. After that, it’s just a matter of snapping shots using the rangefinder.

For image quality, the I’m Back Roll has a Sony APS-C sensor with 26.1MP resolution. Users can also take shots with the Bluetooth sync by using the remote attached near the camera winder. The camera can store images in RAW and JPEG, as well as 4K videos, with options for internal storage that can go from 64GB to 256GB, enough for professional and casual shoots. It also features a limited but replaceable battery. For longer use, an optional external power bank can be purchased with the product. There’s also wireless transfer and remote control using its accompanying app for easy access to the files.

Merging digital with traditional

Given our screen-dependency today, it is a break to see things from another perspective. With a decade of planning and conceptualizing, the campaign was successfully backed this year, reaching more than $1.4 million worth of pledges on Kickstarter as of this writing. There are a few days left to spare for those interested, and it starts at $449 for the super early bird promo. The complete kit includes the I’m Back Roll, USB cable for charging and data transfer, and Bluetooth remote control. Estimated shipping begins in August next year.
