Software
This laptop runs on Microsoft’s latest operating system—Windows 10 S. Terry Myerson, Microsoft’s Executive VP, said that “S” stands for “streamlined, significant performance, and security”. Given that statement, this specific software is configured for a faster and more reliable usage of the laptop. In comparison with Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Home, Windows 10 S is inclined more with higher security and functioning. Meanwhile, it will only allow downloading and running of apps from its very own Windows store.
Appearance and features
This laptop is said to be perfectly portable and useful for students because it weighs only 2.76 pounds. It’s also great for long researching hours with a battery life of up to 14.5 hours. According to Microsoft’s website, even the software itself is designed to support students and teachers. They call it “your perfect college companion”.
In addition to that, the whole keyboard area and palm rest are covered with the finest fabric touch of Alcantara. Having Alcantara materials secures your laptop from many types of stains and possible liquid spill issues. Just wipe the liquids off, no problem. In addition to that, not everybody likes them, but if you’re curious, you can also check out the design matching wireless Arc Mouse as optional peripheral device.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop comes with a 13.5-inch touchscreen and a resolution of 2256 x 1504 (201 PPI). You care about audio? Do not underestimate the undeniable quality of the embedded speakers with their omnidirectional sound distribution, powered by Omni Speakers and Dolby Audio Premium. If you need to hook up devices or extend your visuals, you can use the mini DisplayPort and USB ports.
Unlike the HP Spectre, Microsoft wanted to offer more than just one style option. They offer a variety of colors for your Surface Laptop’s aluminum cover—burgundy, cobalt blue, graphite gold and platinum but trust me when I say that burgundy sure attracts the eye.
Surface laptop amounts to $999 which encompasses a Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and a storage of 128GB. It will be available on June 15, 2017. That’s certainly a competitive pricing and has the potential to disrupt the market in this segment.
Mid-segment contender for students
It was said that the main purpose of the Surface Laptop is rolled out to challenge Apple and Google’s high-spec MacBook notebooks and Chromebooks in the realm of education.
