Twitter Shuts Down Email Newsletter Service Revue

-

Twitter just communicated to their Revue users, that the service will shut down after they acquired it and ran it for about two years. There is not much background provided but the one primary information for all was that the newsletter service Revue will suspend on January 18, 2023, and any paid subscriptions will be canceled on December 20, 2022.

Update: There is now a public post to verify this as well on the Revue support pages. The post by Senior Product Manager, Martijn de Kuijper, contains the same information as the user email notification held and does not provide additional details.

This means that the email marketing and newsletter service providers industry just lost one interesting contender. Next to stating that it was “a difficult decision”, we currently don’t know any more details about why Twitter changed its strategy like this. However, in the current situation, anything and everything can be expected from Twitter, as a result of leadership and staff changes. It is, however, curious why it was not sold to a competitor or another company interested to step into the email marketing and newsletter business.

More ripples to be expected in the world of Twitter

They close the announcement by pointing out to their user base to consider their local laws when it comes down to downloading subscriber lists and personal data of subscribers. They state, “We want to remind you that it is your responsibility to adhere to any applicable laws, rules, and regulations in connection with your subscriber list and other data we share with you, and Twitter, Inc. has not obtained permission for you to use subscriber information for any purpose. We’re grateful to everyone who has used our service over the years, and hope we can continue to help you build a community with your readers on Twitter.”

To all Twitter users and businesses who investigated into the newsletter platform Revue in the past two years with their time and money, this might feel like a slap in their faces and it could mean that Twitter users are growing to be even more uncertain about their future on Twitter and how they would adapt to changes or new service offerings. We are curious to monitor how things will unfold in this area going forward but more ripples can be expected for 2023 and the future.

TechAcute will send out a final Revue edition to our subscribers with more information how we take things forward shortly.
