Smartwatches have become an essential accessory for those who are active or health-conscious since they help monitor one’s progress. However, some activities make wearing smartwatches uncomfortable. Some smartwatches, despite their numerous features, can be bulky, and some people might find smart rings to be uncomfortable if they aren’t accustomed to wearing jewelry. Even then, tracking steps is not as accurate since the movement recorded doesn’t come from the legs. Veering away from the conventional step-tracking device, TRU is designed to be worn on the ankle to accurately track steps.
Tiny, stylish, and versatile
Sisters and co-founders, Temi Giwa and Tomi Famuboni, created TRU to have a stylish and versatile option for step-tracking. Measuring 10mm in diameter, the tracker doubles as a pendant for the accessory. Its tiny design offers variations on how users prefer to wear it. Aside from using it as an anklet, it can also be worn as a necklace pendant, keychain, or bracelet. This feature allows for flexibility, especially when changing between casual and formal occasions. In terms of battery life, the device can last a month on a single charge, with 2 hours of charging time.

TRU is available in gold, silver, and rose gold. Users can also choose hypoallergenic and tarnish-resistant, providing long-lasting wear. It also promises to be dust, water, shower, steam, and ocean proof. To keep track of progress and view health insights, a partner app is available for download. Users may also sync data with other fitness apps and devices.
One step at a time
In a sea of smart fitness devices such as watches and rings, I personally think that TRU could stand out due to its simplicity. While others may claim that smartwatches only estimate steps via movement, the trinket promises accuracy. As of this writing, the device has gotten more than USD 118,000 worth of pledges out of its USD 7,000 goal on Kickstarter with more than 10 days left. The early bird offer is priced at USD 95, with limited quantities available. Each box comes with the step tracker pebble, charging dock, USB-C charging cable, an accessory of choice, cleaning cloth, and a user manual.
