One pressing concern for every pet owner is the well-being and proper healthcare of their pets. When you live somewhere where adequate pet healthcare is scarce, it’s terrifying. PetPal, the first pet telemedicine service in the Philippines, aims to provide online healthcare for pets at any place, anytime. It allows pet owners to get professional virtual healthcare for pets from the comfort of their homes. It also provides grooming services, veterinarian bookings, and a shop section for pet accessories and foods.
PetPal offers vet teleconsultation for almost every kind of pet. Owners can chat with a vet starting at a little less than $2. Video teleconsultation is available for users at any time, anywhere, for around $7. Owners can book a home vet visit for a more detailed consultation for around $10. The app also offers home grooming services for around $14.
Filling a service gap where it’s needed
However, PetPal’s home grooming services are only available in Metro Manila. Meanwhile, home vet service is available in Metro Manila, Cebu City, and Davao City. With a presence in all principal islands in the Philippines, there are more than 1,500 certified vets, as well as more than 500 clinics and brands on board. Since the app’s launch in February 2023, it has provided services for over 10,000 pets of over 9,000 pet owners.

PetPal has three subscription models that offer many premium features. It offers unlimited teleconsultations, discounts, and many more services at reduced prices. The Lite and Solo plans offer unlimited vet teleconsultations for one pet as well as free e-prescriptions and medical referrals. Its Club plan offers a 10% discount on home vet services, anti-rabies vaccines, and partner clinics. Additionally, it offers up to around $540 worth of discounts while shopping for products within the store, which offers pet accessories, toys, medicines, and food.
PetPal and the VC
PetPal is a startup from the 917Ventures portfolio. While the company has many international-scale projects, there is no immediate plan to expand the app out of the Philippines yet. The developers are focusing on improving the customer experience right now. While many pet owners have been satisfied with the services, some customers complained about an unresponsive and buggy application on Android and iOS.
Despite some complaints that can be seen in the app stores, PetPal has gained momentum in just one year. After all, the app helps reduce the stress of both pets and their owners, especially regarding immediate health concerns. The app is an important milestone in providing digital healthcare for pets in the Philippines. It is showing progress, and with its partnership with various organizations all over the Philippines, it aims to do well in 2024 as well. Perhaps they can even scale to serve users around the globe at some point in the future.
