Being a digital artist is hard work, and some of the digital art I’ve seen is absolutely incredible. A lot of artists, digital or otherwise, still enjoy using pen and paper as their medium of expression. However, with digital transformation, many of them also turn to their tablets and iPads for their masterpieces.
With that in mind, entrepreneur Jan Sapper created Paperlike, a polyethylene terephthalate screen protector for iPads. It mimics the texture and feel of paper as you use your device while simultaneously protecting your screen.

Feel on paper
In terms of Paperlike use, artists described it as “like drawing on paper”, which means that it’s doing a good job at what it’s made to do. The protector reduces the glare effect on the device thanks to its matte finish. It’s able to mute the colors slightly while providing a clearer view of what the artwork would look like when printed on paper. The texture also reduces the smudges caused by fingerprints. Writers also praised and highlighted its feel of paper and the “grainy” texture. Users like students apparently have an easier time taking notes during lectures and meetings with the screen protector.
You do need an Apple pencil for the best Paperlike experience, as Paperlike can provide the necessary resistance to its tip. Many commented that the combination of Paperlike and the Apple pencil provides an optimal experience and reduces the tapping noise you’d normally get on the iPad. The drawback of this combo, however, is that Paperlike wears out the tip of the Apple pencil quicker than non-matte screen protectors, due to its texture.

The screen protector is priced at $44.99. It also comes with some wipes, dust absorbers, and sticker guides to help you apply the screen protector.
