Having big storage space is the most important feature for any film producer, graphic designer, or literally anyone who relies heavily on content creation. Currently, the biggest possible SSD you can get is a 100TB SSD, but that might change soon. In TechRadar Pro’s exclusive with the CEO of Nimbus Data, Thomas Isakovich, he revealed that they’re working on an SSD that would have bigger storage than what’s currently out in the market, and it’s expected to come in as a 200TB SSD.
World’s first 200TB SSD is nearly here, but you can’t use it: The era of 200TB solid-state drives (SSD) appears to be on the horizon, with a successor to the world’s largest SSD confirmed to be in development. https://t.co/4Km6ajWq5X #digit #smart #number pic.twitter.com/4hW4zwNPMt

Expected features
The 200TB SSD isn’t just a random figure. This has been in the works, and it shows in TechRadar’s previous interview with Isakovich in 2020. Back then, he estimated that there is a possibility to produce a 200TB SSD by 2021 and a 400TB SSD by 2023. The timeline has moved since then, most likely due to the pandemic and the domino effect that came with it, including the supply shortages felt within the tech industry.
Of course, now that we’re moving towards the endemic era, the plan to produce a 200TB SDD is most likely moving forward. At the moment, Isakovich said that the SSD will not only have more capacity but will also perform better while consuming less energy without exerting more on the cooling system.

Obviously, this is an enticing innovation to look forward to, especially if you’re someone in constant need of bigger storage space. You can imagine that apart from content creators and the like needing a 200TB SSD to do their work, it’s also important for people who are looking into the possibility of keeping their work from home arrangement or transitioning into a hybrid working environment.
For now, there’s no word on how much this 200TB SSD would cost, but it’s expected to be a bit more costly than usual. At the moment, it’s expected to release sometime this year, so that’s something to look forward to.
