Logitech Announces Acquisition of Astro Gaming to Break into Console Market

-

Logitech-G-Logo-High-Resolution-Large_Horizontal_blackLausanne, Switzerland, July 11 — Logitech announces the intention to acquire the US-based company Astro Gaming for $85m in cash. They currently project the acquisition to be completed by early August.

Logitech already has a division for gaming equipment called Logitech G. Yet, until now they have been focusing on PC peripherals to support gamers with their eSports efforts. Astro Gaming, on the other hand, is one of the leading gaming headset makers for console gamers as well as PC gamers.

What does Astro Gaming do?

As per their own website, the Astro Gaming motto is “Better Graphics Deserve Better Sound.” By that, they mean that gamers on next-gen consoles should also embrace better audio for voice chat and game sounds, and not only rely on the default headsets that the console manufacturer adds to the box.

Astro Gaming has a small but promising portfolio of gaming headsets that should help streamers, just as well as eSport players, and even the casual gamer who enjoys voice chat with other players from around the world. Next to not bothering other people around you with the game sounds, the headsets are also useful to coordinate strategy with your team members and exchange valuable information at the speed of a normal conversation. This can often help competitive gamers to have an advantage against a team that does not make use of voice chat.

Leadership insight

“Astro is the leading player for premium console headsets and is the preferred headset for console eSports athletes,” said Ujesh Desai, vice president and general manager of Logitech G. “It’s a perfect complement to Logitech G’s focus on PC gaming, and we couldn’t be more excited; we love the team, the brand, and the products. Together, we want to make game play even more fun for gamers everywhere.”

Jordan Reiss, co-founder, and president of Astro Gaming added, “The whole team at Astro has always held Logitech and Logitech G products in the highest regard, so I’m ecstatic we are joining forces. Astro’s brand strength combined with Logitech G’s unrivaled technology and global distribution network is going to bring our products to even more gamers around the world.”
