Learn STEM with CircuitMess’s DIY AI-Powered Batmobile

-

Over the past few years, we’ve seen Albert Gajšak and his company, CircuitMess, create a lot of innovations within the STEM community, from MAKERbuino to STEM Box for kids. This time around, Gajšak is bringing in an iconic car into the CircuitMess mix: the Batmobile.

The CircuitMess Batmobile is a STEM kit that lets you create a DIY AI-powered smart robot car. Apart from it being one of Batman’s trusty vehicles, this kit aims to help you explore your knowledge about autonomous driving and machine learning along with electronics and programming skills.

The AI smart robot car

First off, the CircuitMess Batmobile is a licensing deal between CircuitMess and Warner Brothers, ensuring the accuracy of the car design. Apart from its aesthetics, the aim of this smart robot car is to inspire kids to learn about STEM. Francois Simonetta, Vice President at Warner Bros. Consumer Products EMEA Agents,  shares her excitement as CircuitMess Batmobile can “teach both electronics and coding is a great way to encourage kids to learn STEM by doing what is most natural to them: playing.”

Inside the box

Inside the box, you will get a bunch of electronic stuff that you will have to assemble yourself to make the CircuitMess Batmobile. To build the device, you have to follow the instructed tutorial that will be given in the manual. It will help you learn more about electronics, science, engineering, and some other skills as well. The Batmobile comprises multiple technological aspects including:

  • A camera
  • Dual-core processor
  • Rechargeable battery
  • Four metal gearmotors
  • 2W speaker
  • WiFi
  • LED light decoration

It drives flawlessly with its four electromotors and navigates autonomously through the space with its built-in camera and CPU. The best part is that the CircuitMess Batmobile can recognize and track objects and takes the action accordingly. It has a wireless controller to control the smart car. The remote-control gadget comes with a CPU, LCD, buttons, and WiFi that enables live video transmission into the small screen of the controller.

Lessons to be learned from Batmobile

Once you have assembled it all and built the CircuitMess Batmobile, you can connect it to your PC and program in C++ for coding or CircuitBlocks. This also lets you code the microcontroller. You may need to apply different filters and computer vision algorithms in different output that will be visible on the screen.

The programming may seem daunting at first, but with CircuitMess Batmobile, anyone starting at the age of seven can do it. It’s also the perfect way for parents to bond with their kids and perhaps share their love for Batman. The kit had a successful campaign on Kickstarter and Indiegogo and is scheduled for shipping by July 2022.
