A few months back, I had a chance to eat at a restaurant in Taiwan that had robots roaming around with the staff. These service robots, while they didn’t take orders, were the ones delivering the food items to multiple tables. Of course, the use of robots isn’t totally new, but seeing them in action in a common area like a restaurant makes the idea of robots integrated into our society closer than we think.
This isn’t also for novelty’s sake. Sure, businesses today turn to technology to keep up with the demands of their customers for better service. Examples like the restaurant and retail industries have come back in full force, and while stores most likely have their staff catering to every customer, it’s also most likely that they can be overwhelmed. To help alleviate this problem, Pudu Robotics (PUDU) has just launched its new robot, KettyBot Pro.

Cute robots in store
While the robots I saw back in Taiwan weren’t necessarily the KettyBot Pro, they were, I found later, part of PUDU’s line of products. Afterward, I also found that areas like restaurants in the Philippines also had them, which meant that there was definitely that reach of robots to the masses. Looking back, it looks like a preview of the new product. Imagine a Roomba but with a few levels where trays can be placed. The top has a screen showcasing customizable smart expressions that give the robot an adorable and approachable look.

What’s different with the KettyBot Pro is the addition of the ad display that provides a new way to market company products. This means that the device can roam around the store, delivering multiple items while doing some marketing along the way with their digital signage display. It can also work with multiple robots within the same network to avoid bumps within the same vicinity. Apart from that, the company added a fisheye camera above each tray to help detect whether there’s an item on the tray or not. There’s also the upgrade on the robot’s capability to pass through narrow areas from 55cm to 52cm.
With a new 52cm width, KettyBot Pro effortlessly navigates tight spaces, adding flexibility & efficiency to any business setting. Perfect for busy restaurants or crowded markets.

According to Felix Zhang, CEO of PUDU, robots like KettyBot Pro are there to assist the staff “by taking care of monotonous tasks so that they can focus on more value-added services like enhancing customer experience.” For those who want to try out the device for their own businesses, the robot is currently available in Salt White, Samurai Black, and Beige Yellow.
