After drying under heat and removing any mask from exposed pads, the boards are one step closer to completion. Now, legends and labels are printed right onto each board by inkjet printers. This silkscreen process offers essential component markings for assembly teams. Surface finish is the last major chemistry step. Hot-air solder leveling (HASL) is often used to protect solder pads from oxidation, but some boards also get treated with immersion gold, hard gold, or OSP, depending on their purpose.

Testing, inspection, and shipping

With the core build finished, it is time to make sure every board works as intended. Electrical testing with flying probe machines checks for insulation, correct connections, and absence of shorts. For production at scale, fully automated testers are used for speed and consistency. Once tested, the panels are split into individual boards using CNC mills. Some boards are scored for easy snapping later.

Boards move through final cleaning and drying to remove dust and residues. Before packaging, inspector teams look for cosmetic defects, marking errors, or any physical flaws that would prevent use. Packaging uses vacuum-sealing and bubble wrap to keep the PCBs free of dirt and moisture during shipping.
