Greenly and Tink Collaborate to Track Carbon Footprint through Banks

-

Everyone can play a role in the fight against climate change. One of the things you can do is track your carbon footprint and improve your ecological impact. For the uninitiated, carbon footprint is a measure of the impact your activities have on the amount of carbon dioxide produced in the air. Normally, a person would find it impossible to measure their personal carbon footprint on their own, which is where Greenly comes in.

Greenly is a leader in carbon footprint tracking, with a mobile app that allows you to track and improve your carbon footprint. Now, they have teamed up with the European open banking platform Tink to offer its mobile app throughout Europe.

A European standard for carbon footprint tracking

Founded in 2019, Greenly makes it easy for individuals and companies to track their carbon footprint automatically. The mobile app helps track your climate dashboard, understand which expenses have the most impact, and learn how to choose greener alternatives daily.

Currently, Greenly is available only in France, where it gathered the world’s largest community of people tracking their carbon footprint. With their partnership with Tink, Europe’s leading open banking platform catering to data-driven financial services, they will be able to offer its mobile app anywhere around Europe. Both companies aim to create a European standard for tracking carbon footprints through banks.

Automated carbon impact analysis

Once the Greenly mobile app becomes available in Europe, users can synchronize it with their bank accounts for all European banks. This will help estimate the carbon footprint for every expense.

Until now, banking mobile apps only informed users about their financial health. But now, they will also be able to inform users about their carbon footprint thanks to Greenly. They integrated its technology into a couple of European banks so far and continues to expand its Carbon Index API to all banks in Europe. This will become the first European app for automated carbon impact analysis.

The main purpose of Greenly is to support lifestyle changes by setting a carbon budget to help fight against climate change. According to the company, changes in individual behavior can reduce users’ carbon footprint by 20% only by adopting greener habits. Such habits can include switching to low carbon transport and green energies, designing your own eco-friendly clothes, or reducing meat consumption.

According to the CEO and co-founder of Greenly, Alexis Normand, they are at the beginning of a carbon footprint revolution. He believes that they will help everyone save a ton or two of CO2 emissions per year. Tink’s Regional Director for France and Benelux Jérôme Albus expressed that the company is glad about the partnership with Greenly. He said that helping people and businesses understand their carbon footprint is now more important than ever.

It’s exciting to see how much this partnership can potentially help in curbing carbon emissions. In the meantime, if you’re based in France, you can download the Greenly app that’s available for both Android and iOS.
