Google Play Games Beta Lets You Play Android Games on PC

-

Have you ever been stuck on a tough level of an Android game, wishing you could just swap your phone’s touch controls for a trusty mouse and keyboard? Well, Google’s got something cooking. They’ve launched the beta version of Google Play Games for PC.

Right now, it’s like a sneak preview behind the velvet rope of game development as a beta test phase. It’s a chance to test drive this new service, which lets you play Android games that you’ve bought on your smartphone, but on your PC. You can finally have that precision control you’ve been yearning for, swapping the touch screen for a keyboard and mouse setup.

Google is making some big promises with this venture. One of the biggest is the ability to sync your game progress between devices. Picture this, you’re playing a game on your phone while on the bus, you get home, fire up the PC, and pick up right where you left off. Sounds pretty cool, right? But hold your horses, because, in early tests, this feature seems to be more promise than reality. Remember, we’re in beta territory, so there are going to be a few bumps on the road.

As of now, Google has about 100 games ready for you to test out in the beta phase. Keep in mind, though, this isn’t a cloud service. So, you’ll need to download the games and all their data onto your PC before you can dive in.

Curious? Want to give it a go? Head over to the Google Play Games beta website to see what games are available and how to get started with the client download. Just remember, it’s still in the testing phase, so there might be some restrictions, and not everything might be running as smoothly as it will in the final version.

It’s an exciting time, to see Google take this step into cross-platform gaming. It will also be interesting to see how that will work out for all the ported games that originated from PC or consoles and later got edited to work on Android smartphones as well. The beta phase is crucial for ironing out the kinks and shaping the final product. So, if you’ve ever wanted to have a say in the future of gaming, now’s your chance.
