Death Stranding Director’s Cut Expands Beyond PlayStation

-

Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding has finally broken away from its PlayStation console exclusivity and is now available on Xbox Series X|S as Director’s Cut. This expansion allows a larger audience to engage with Kojima’s unique game, which has also been made accessible through Amazon’s Luna+. Non-PlayStation console players, who previously also enjoyed other Kojima titles, such as games from the Metal Gear series, can now explore this distinctive title and have long-awaited the shift.

Death Stranding outside of PlayStation? It took some sweet time

The initial release of Death Stranding was on November 8, 2019, and currently, the game is offered at a 50% discount for the new platforms, providing an attractive entry point for new players. However, the delayed multi-platform release raises questions about the initial exclusivity strategy. Many players felt left out when the title debuted solely on PlayStation, which might have hindered Kojima Productions’ reach.

The Director’s Cut introduces several new features. The ‘Ruined Factory’ is a fresh, challenging location that adds depth to the gameplay. Players can also use enhanced delivery assists and updated combat mechanics, such as the Maser Gun and advanced melee moves. These improvements provide strategic options and bring renewed excitement to the gameplay.

Likely a worthy title to try out

The game’s narrative remains a significant draw, featuring performances by a notable cast, including Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Léa Seydoux. The story revolves around the protagonist Sam Bridges’ mission to reconnect a society fractured by the ‘Death Stranding’ event, resonating with themes of unity and survival.

While the broader release is a positive step for Kojima Productions, it highlights the potential missed opportunities from the game’s original, more limited launch. Expanding to additional platforms could have fostered a larger community from the beginning. As Xbox players and Amazon Luna+ subscribers embark on this journey, the impact of this strategic shift will be closely observed in the gaming community.
