Combatting Viewer Fatigue and Keeping Audience Engaged

-

Whether you’re a social media influencer or just a user, keeping your audience engaged with your content can be a feat. Influencers rely on views and clicks, so they must keep their fans and viewers interested. There are instances, however, where viewers can experience some fatigue from the content they’re seeing, even if it’s one they usually like. When this happens, fewer views or a decrease in the number of likes on social media posts can be seen. So, how do you keep things fresh to avoid that fatigue?

Avoid sharing too much information

People are always fascinated with mystery. The more mysterious something is, the more the interest is piqued. For influencers who record and share daily lives and routines, too much information may be shared with the viewers. As such, viewers may gradually lose interest and stop following the page. In addition to this, oversharing on social media also poses safety risks.

With the amount of digital content produced daily, it can be bothersome to filter the good from the bad. Digital creators must learn to be creative and offer new and unique concepts or materials daily to keep the clicks coming. One way to do this is to research who their target audience is and what they like.

Creating content is a never-ending process. Creators should learn to tweak their format based on the platform they are using. For example, people are most likely to lean towards bite-sized entertainment to fit their fast-paced lifestyle. TikTok is a great example of this with its short video formats. Facebook, Instagram, and even YouTube have also followed suit of this trend.

Know when to pivot

If all else fails, learn when it’s time to find other outlets that are more accessible and populated. With more people on the platform, the potential to gain more engagement increases. It might help to take a step back, learn what relates well to your audience, and strategize on what platform to be in. Knowing who and where your audience is will be a step in earning their loyalty.

Before you go: What Small Businesses Can Learn from Influencers

The online world can be harsh. It is advised to remind oneself that there are more important things in life than views and likes. For influencers, though, this could be their bread and butter. That being said, the most important thing to keep their audience engaged without experiencing fatigue is to be relatable and authentic.
