I once got a metal detector to find a ring that was lost somewhere on a hiking trail. I didn’t find it, unfortunately. But I hear that many people are luckier than I was when using metal detectors. Maybe not so much to recover things they lost but to find secret treasures that someone else has lost or had thrown away. But how likely is it that you will find something with a metal detector, and will the items you can uncover be of any value?
