For developers and designers, Acer is getting serious about its notebooks, taking off the wraps of a full line of devices at IFA 2019. During this time, Acer announced the ConceptD 9, a top of the line laptop equipped with a special Ezel Aero Hinge. This enables users to have a variety of usage modes according to their requirements.
The ConceptD range of laptops targets all types of content creators. This is designed specifically for artists, vloggers, professional content creators, video creators, and the like.
Design
The ConceptD 9 Pro’s main appeal is the display. The 4K UHD display of 17.3 inches uses a unique Ezel Aero Hinge which enables a full range of movement of the display. The display naturally covers 100% of Adobe RGB color gamut and has a color accuracy of Delta E <1. The display is impressive, but it’s in the responsiveness of using a digital pen that provides a great user experience.
Aside from that, Acer has placed the CPU and GPU to the back of the case in order or maximize internal airflow. This also houses the Aeroblade 3D Gen 4 fans. With that, the mechanical keyboard and touchpad have been moved forward with embedded numeric keys, losing the normal areas for the palm rest. All of these details make the Acer ConceptD worthy to win the Good Design Award for 2019.
Specifications
Driving the beast is a 9th gen Intel Core I9 Processor for the highest spec model, along with the Nvidia Quadro RTX 5000. It also features 32GB of DDR4 RAM and two RAID 1 NVMe SSD’s.
In regards to ports selection, this laptop doesn’t disappoint as it contains several ports including a USB Type C, Thunderbolt 3, two USB 3.1, GbE, display port, and HDMI. Despite having so many top-class features, the system’s portability is slightly reduced due to its weight of around 9 pounds.
Conclusion
Acer says the ConceptD 9 Pro is created to aim at large animation studio needs and also AI and Deep learning tasks. With this layout, the CNC-machined Ezel Aero Hinge, which otherwise looked very unnecessary, finds a real use as it is designed to deliver the most optimal creative usage positions.
Unsurprisingly, a laptop of such quality comes at a price. The ConceptD 9 Pro will be available in North America and Europe in November, with a starting price of $5,800. While the hefty price will be a hurdle for some, there’s nothing out there that even comes close to what this laptop seems to offer.
