  • 1986: Head of Development and Director of Customer Service at start-up Fitel
  • 1988: Product Manager and later VP at Bankers Trust
  • 1990: SVP at D.E. Shaw
  • 1993: Marriage with MacKenzie Bezos (4 children)
  • 1994: Founding Amazon.com, online retail platform
  • 1997: Amazon had its IPO
  • 1999: Time – Person of the Year
  • 2000: Founding Blue Origin, a human spaceflight startup
  • 2003: Survived helicopter crash
  • 2008: U.S. News & World Report – recognised as one of America’s best leaders
  • 2008: Honorary doctorate in Science and Technology (Carnegie Mellon University)
  • 2012: Bezos and his wife personally donated $2.5 million to pass a same-sex marriage referendum in Washington
  • 2012: Bezos was named Business Person of The Year by Fortune
  • 2013: Purchase of The Washington Post, newspaper
