Hiring someone or editing an image yourself may take a long while, but with tools like DALL-E, it takes seconds and can even bring your imagination to life with just a prompt. What if this single prompt magic was extended beyond images? For instance, making high-quality music, while achievable individually with the right resources, is often a team effort inaccessible to most. You might have a new tune or lyric stuck in your mind, but it might not be easy to develop it due to the costs of production and expertise needed. Suno AI is a new tool that can effortlessly generate full music tracks — lyrics, voice, background tune — all from a prompt.
From text prompt to song idea
Suno AI is dedicated to sound AIs and making music creation accessible. The app, available on the browser, offers a limited number of free uses per day. It’s also available via Microsoft Copilot as a plugin, but for free users, it has a cap of 20 seconds. Of course, paying for a subscription allows users more access to different features. Besides having more uses per day, the app grants users ownership of the tracks they generate with their prompt, or at least within the limits of the still-debated ownership of AI content.

Suno AI offers high-quality instrumental tracks and professional voice quality; it’s up to the user how much they want to customize the prompt. With “custom mode,” one can write the lyrics and ask for specific types of music instead of relying on the AI’s interpretation of the prompt. Personally speaking, and it might be because I don’t have a refined ear when it comes to music, I wasn’t able to determine if the songs generated from the app were AI-generated at all. Be it upbeat, intense rap, or dramatic opera, the model seems capable of generating music smoothly.
