People have always decorated the walls of their homes to add character to them. However, the way we decorate our walls is now changing thanks to technology and the trend towards minimalism. Instead of static elements like calendars, our focus is on items with more practical uses, such as a TV for entertainment purposes or a whole-house climate control system. Shelly Wall Display XL, now available in Europe, is a minimal cost-effective hub to control every smart element of your home or business.
All-in-one control
The 155.8 x 272.5 x 38.3 mm control panel supports widgets for personalization as well as full control of appliances up to 1500W. In addition to the touchscreen, the Shelly Wall Display XL features four side buttons. Usable as shortcuts to the user’s preferred actions. It connects to the Shelly Smart Control app for remote access, as well as other technologies such as MQTT and Home Assistant.

The Shelly Wall Display XL also features additional components, including speakers, integrated lighting, and proximity sensors. All these combined, the panel can be used as an effective home monitoring and automation system. Combined with the app, this becomes accessible from anywhere.
Cost cutting
Beyond just convenience, the Shelly Wall Display XL is also efficient. In addition to tracking statistics from other devices and turning them off in case of overheating, it also monitors power consumption. In the long run, this can significantly cut electricity costs. As a testament to this power-effective philosophy, even the main control panel itself supports a proximity-based functionality, turning itself off and ensuring no electricity is wasted while no one is looking at the screen.
The idea of making our home decor more functional is not a new concept. An example is the digital photo frame that emerged during the 1990s, which allowed users to choose and replace photos without having to print them out. Such attempts were at the time deemed expensive novelties and never quite became mainstream, but they laid the groundwork for the possibilities we see today. As we inevitably move toward smarter homes, devices like the Shelly Wall Display XL would make more sense.
