If you are finding yourself entrapped in the glow of your smartphones and mindlessly killing hours scrolling through your newsfeed, then you might be addicted and need a solution. However, modern problems can have modern solutions, such as installing a screen time app called Zario. It can help you to reduce screen time and improve your digital well-being.
Bad habits with screens
People are often found glued to their smartphones. Behavioral scientist Finn Ross has done a study on how to break bad habits and create healthy ones. He suggests a digital intervention to reduce and re-balance digital media synthesis.

Further statistics show that:
- 89% of people tend to check their phones within the first 10 minutes of waking up
- 84% of them use it for personal matters while working
- 75% of them take their phones to the toilet
- 57% consider themselves addicted to their phones
- 55% of them have never gone longer than 24 hours without their mobile
The problem became so acute that a simple and intuitive user interface can make it possible to integrate and digitize the entire process. Even the integration of new technologies like augmented reality can transform so it can work in a certain way.

The idea for the Zario app came from two passionate tech enthusiasts: Ondrej Zak and Killian Chiao. A few years back, Zak suffered from phone addiction and was struggling hard to change the habit. He realized that others were also suffering the same thing and needed an effective solution to come out of it. Together with Chiao, they started brainstorming ideas to get rid of this addiction. They wanted to create something more than just a screen time tracker that could tackle all the psychological points.
Reducing screen time
Zario is a gamified screen time reduction app. It uses scientific methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy that have a proven record of reducing smartphone addiction. With actionable daily micro-challenges, the app will reduce screentime and replace it with healthy habits.
It is not just an ordinary time tracker; the app aims to motivate and keep you in the loop with exciting rewards, like badges and points. Zario not only blocks you from those addictive ones but also intercepts you when you try to open an app one too many times. Instead, it will redirect you to do things that match your goals. Blocking you from an app can often attract you to use it more, whereas the app will motivate you to do something productive, such as learning a new language or meditating.

Whenever you are on your phone to check notifications, Zario will pop up and make you wait for three seconds to reconsider your decision. You can also set session limits. This is what creates a difference among OS-integrated tools; it doesn’t send you a notification of the total time spent in an app. All you have to do is set your goal, track your progress regularly, and earn rewards for staying on track.
The Zario screentime app features 200 challenges where you can compete with other users based on who has reduced their screen time the most. You can see your name at the top of the leaderboard. Every month, more than 2,100 users are taking the challenges. So far, the app has been downloaded over 40k times with 400 daily active users and is available for both Android and iOS.
