Everything around us possesses mass and energy, and it is up to us to extract that energy and make it useful. There are hundreds of methods to generate electric power in sustainable ways but at the same time the cost of the project matters. So, we choose ones that are not just sustainable but also creative and easy to manufacture.
Every idea of power generation gets based on a simple energy conversion strategy, but it requires some genius to make that happen. Thankfully, a genius from Loughborough University came up with the idea of generating power from every human step. With that idea to pave the way for alternative energy, Pavegen was born.

How does Pavegen tile work?
Pavegen makes tiles that have an AC power generating mechanism below them. Every tile connects to a pushing mechanism that enables the flywheel, which transfers energy to a series of coils and magnets generating power. The flywheel maintains the inertia and assists in keeping the power-generating system running once it starts.
Pavegen owns the patent for the most efficient conversion of downward motion to rotatory motion, which makes the whole system efficient.
One step at a time
Although Pavegen simply converts human kinetic energy into electric power, it took them to design 750 prototypes of all sizes and structures to find the one that best suits human walking conditions and weight.

After more than a decade of work, a single human step on a Pavegen tile can light up an LED for a few seconds today, whereas this project in a crowded place could generate a decent amount of power. The early design is a rectangular tile, which looked more robust but gets the maximum out of each step. However, the company changed its tiles into a triangular shape, which gives it a more techy look and adds more power to the system.
It took them a lot of time to make a complete engineering structure of the project to get sound output from the Pavegen tile. Now, the company has over 250 projects in 37 different countries.
Pavegen wishes to be the techy floor of the future in every crowded place. They have installed these floors at airports, malls, streets, schools, exhibitions, and many amazing places. They believe in creating a power system where every person contributes to making the world more sustainable. The search for renewable energy continues for a sustainable future, but Pavegen tiles are a suitable option for our lifestyle.
