Chinese smartphone manufacturer OPPO, owned by BBK Electronics, announces the OPPO Find X – an upcoming flagship smartphone that has a near bezel-less display and a mechanical pop-out part that houses the cameras and sensors.
Every new smartphone that released this year has a taller screen or uses a notch to give you more display estate. So, the push towards a true bezel-less smartphone is heating up among smartphone manufacturers. Recently, smartphone manufacturer Vivo announced the Vivo Nex – a near bezel-less smartphone that uses a pop-up part to house the front camera. Now OPPO is revealing the Find X, presenting their take on the bezel-less smartphone mission. Therefore, let’s dive in on the details!

The first thing that stands out when you look at the device is the design. OPPO stated that they’re continuing their ongoing quest to blend technology and art, and the Find X is definitely expressing that. The glass back has subtle curves around the sides, while both color options, Burgundy Red and Ice Blue, give the device a mystic look. OPPO describes it as the “beauty of nature,” combining serenity and vitality.
Full-view display
The main attraction is in the display though, as OPPO managed to achieve a 93.8% screen-to-body ratio. This is the second device to achieve this feat without the help of a notch, alongside the beforementioned Vivo Nex. As for the technical details, the 6.24” AMOLED display has 1080 x 2340 resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. As a result, colors are vibrant and punchy, with nice viewing angles and good brightness in direct sunlight.

The whole top of the phone is moving
OPPO also opted for a retractable camera to achieve the bezel-less display, like the Nex. What’s different though is that on the Find X, the whole top of the device is moving. And in it, all of the sensors and both the front and back camera setups are housed. OPPO claims that this module can be raised and lowered over 300 thousand times without any problems. The test of time will tell though, as this module is going to be activated a lot.

Power on the inside
The internals are nothing less exciting, either. The OPPO Find X uses the latest Snapdragon 845 processor and Adreno 630 graphics. This combination is found on most flagship smartphones from this year, and it guarantees swift performance and execution of tasks. Going over to the memory, the Find X is equipped with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Finally, the device is powered by the 3730mAh battery.
The rear camera setup consists of a primary 16MP sensor and a secondary 20MP sensor. Both sensors have f/2.0 aperture, with the primary one only having optical image stabilization. The front 25MP sensor has a 3D sensor that creates an infrared image of your face, used for Face Unlock. Unfortunately, this is the only secure way to unlock the device, since you won’t find a fingerprint sensor anywhere else. Finishing with the software, the Find X is running ColorOS 5.1, based on Android Oreo 8.1.
Pricing and availability
The OPPO Find X will be available in Asia and most European markets, with a price of €999 ($1,169). A release in the Americas region is currently not confirmed and unlikely.
