Hideo Kojima Reveals New ‘Death Stranding’ Trailer at E3

-

Judging by the announcements at this year’s Sony E3, post-apocalyptic horror games are coming back in style. First revealed at E3 2016, Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding again tickled our fancy in the newest, fourth trailer, revealing some new details about this new game, although the official release date still remains a mystery.

Japanese studio Kojima Productions, established in December 2015 by game designer Hideo Kojima, who rose to fame with his work on the Metal Gear series, released the first teaser trailer at E3 2016, whereas the second and third ones appeared at TGA 2016 and 2017.

As we previously reported, Death Stranding will delight us with the involvement of some of the most famous on-screen stars of today – Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus, who will play the main protagonist and Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen.

Reedus’s participation was revealed with the very first trailer, when, in the words of Hideo Kojima himself, “we really had next to nothing. What we did have, however, was our bond (strand) with Norman Reedus… and the idea of the game in my mind.”

More actors to join the Death Stranding crew

At TGA 2016, the developers revealed Mikkelsen and Guillermo del Toro will take part as well. The newest trailer confirmed that more stars will be joining us on the mysterious dark adventure that is called Death Stranding. We’re talking about Léa Sedyoux and Lindsay Wagner.

Seydoux is well-known for her roles in 2015 Bond movie Spectre and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011), whereas Wagner starred in the 1970s iconic TV series The Bionic Woman and The Six Million Dollar Man.

All of the in-game character models are, of course, based on the actors’ and actresses’ real-life appearance. Hideo Kojima wrote in his blog that the newest trailer shows a lot more of the actual gameplay, provides some answers, as well as gives “a chance to discover new mysteries”.

Describing the main protagonist, Sam, Kojima says he is not like most of the heroes we see in other games, some kind of elite or an ex-soldier, but a blue-collar worker, “someone you’ll intuitively understand once you play the game and control Sam.”

Word from the boss

To top it all off, the game creator concludes his blog post with a direct message to the fans:

“This game is being woven together through numerous strands and human connections, including strands with you: the fans. The picture that forms on this tapestry is already beautifully drawn in my mind, and is right now, being woven together with the utmost care. It is sure to form an image unlike any seen before. I hope that the strand with you will be a special one.”

We see what you did there, Hideo.
