Misinformation has become a serious concern since artificial intelligence came into the picture. Used maliciously, AI could be used to create deepfakes by synthesizing images, text, and audio content online. This is why Fujitsu has announced Frontria, a consortium of 50 global organizations, to handle the growing challenges caused by AI’s disinformation, misinformation, AI system vulnerabilities, and regulatory compliance.
Frontria and its aim
According to Fujitsu, disinformation has led to economic losses of about JPY 12.2 trillion since 2023. Meanwhile, businesses have been facing financial risks due to non-compliance and cyberattacks. Hence, the aim of Frontria is to create solid applications and services as well as share information related to the use cases. It will also be promoting advanced technological IP that would help with accessing AI technology safely.

To tackle such issues, Frontria will have a “technology pool” which will include innovation partners, technology IP providers, data providers, engineering partners, and incubators to collaborate and find solutions. Specifically, three community groups from the consortium will work on disinformation countermeasures, tackling the misinformation and fake content, trustworthiness to address ethical and legal problems in AI, and AI security to ensure safe utilization and operation. Meanwhile, working groups will help develop better technologies and create applications. Moreover, a developer community will concentrate on core technology developments through knowledge sharing and competitions.
Future collaborations
In 2025, Frontria will start carrying out activities with organizations from Japan, Europe, North America, India, Australia, and other regions. They want to engage with organisations from different industries to increase their scale, but also to create new use cases from industries like finance, media, entertainment, legal, AI businesses, etc. By 2026, they want the consortium to grow to over 100 global organizations. The company also promised to provide trial access to its own core AI technologies for disinformation countermeasures to companies that will partner with them through the consortium.
