Dodge the Spam Folder and Test Your Reputation with Mail-Tester

-

Many a time, a well-intended email lands up in the receivers’ spam folder or junk folder. To avoid spam folders and test emails before sending, a website tool called mail-tester provides efficient and economical solutions. The e-mail testing website has a short origin story wherein they needed a “cheap, simple and efficient way to quickly test the quality of our own newsletters.”

The way mail-tester works is that it scans the email you intend not to be discarded or blocked, and the first few results to avoid the spam folder and test emails are free. However, if you want to take more tests ranging from 500 to a million, the cost ranges from €50 to €20,000.

Whether it is an employment letter, a campaign letter, or newsletters from your favorite news organizations, there are high chances that these might get identified as spam at the terminal end. If you have been at the receiving end of this problem, the great news is that this problem is fixable, and let’s find out how mail-tester does it.

Test and dodge

The mail-tester provides a test email address that can be used to check whether the mail you are about to send to your clients or followers doesn’t end up in the spam or junk folder. Once the mail-tester tool has analyzed the email, it will ask you to ‘check your score.’ The goal is to score a perfect ten on ten on the beauty of the contents in your email.

To test the efficiency of this tool, I sent a test mail to the address provided by the website from the point of view of a fundraiser. The contents of my make-belief email scored 9/10 at mail-tester, with a few suggestions to improve on my score. The following images are the mail I tested on the website.

I had no trouble when trying out mail-tester, and this appears to be a good way to check the authenticity of your email. This will also help creators, entrepreneurs, and others to retain the trust of their people.

A few quick tips

In order to make emails fare well in mail-tester tests, there are many ways to do so. It is, of course, a given that the quality of the content is expected to be high. One must also refrain from writing fluff and write with genuine intent. The use of good grammar tools such as Hemingway, Grammarly, and others will help send across the message in a clear and precise fashion. So far, these basics will make the email look sharp and authentic.

However, the use of the inverted pyramid style of writing, where all the necessary information is delivered in the beginning, helps the receiver read quickly without missing the important details. This also exhibits that the sender appreciates and values the receiver’s time. The overall tone of the email should neither be too flowery nor too frank. A semi-formal but polite tone usually works well in most cases.

Lastly, it is always advisable to know one’s audience before one delivers a performance. Once the theme of the email and the mood in the room is clearly understood, it is highly likely that the email will be well-received. Visit their website if you want to try mail-tester out yourself.
