5 Useful Graphic Editors for Vector Format Files

-

Graphic editors for vector format files are programs used to create or modify graphic images. Vector images are composed of paths, which are defined by points and curves. Vector graphics are often used because they can be scaled to any size without losing quality, and they can be edited easily.

Photoshop and GIMP are the two commonly used software programs for editing graphic files. These tools work wonders for photo editing and creating raster-based graphics; however, you will need a vector format like EPS or SVG when working with scalable images. Raster files (JPG or PNG) can become distorted at certain resolutions, so it’s always best to use a vector file when possible.

What are some good vector editors?

Did you know that these vector graphic editors help you to work on more advanced graphical tasks? In this context, I shortlisted my favorite graphic editors for vector format.

Krita

Krita is an open-source raster graphics editor that not only provides users with vector tools but also allows for the creation of vector graphic files. With this capability, you can now layer your vectors and drawings to create special shapes–all according to your preferences. You can even use the calligraphy or text tool to make unique vectors that look like brushstrokes or other desired shapes.

The Krita solution recently switched from ODG to the more widely-used SVG format in order to improve compatibility with vector graphic files. In addition, you can now use any online PNG to SVG converter to quickly and easily convert your PNG files into SVG format.

Compatible: Windows, macOS, Linux

Boxy SVG

Navigating Boxy SVG is a breeze, whether you use the desktop app or browser version. You’ll have access to drawing tools like pens, shapes, curves, and text – perfect for creating stunning vector graphic files. And if that’s not enough, there are plenty of other options available too, depending on your needs: typography, geometry, masks, and more. Plus, you can easily export your SVGs in other formats if needed.

If you need to convert a PNG file into a vector SVG, there are online programs that will let you do it quickly and easily. BoxySVG is one such program; its options and easy-to-use interface make it ideal for creating vector graphics without any fuss.

Compatible: Web app, macOS, Linux, Chrome

SVG-edit

You no longer have to go through strenuous processes just to download vector graphic editors. With this new software, you can continue without any intervention. This browser-based vector file editor is easy and efficient to use as it lets you work with open-source SVG files.

If you’re looking for an online SVG editor with lots of great image-manipulation features, then SVG-edit is the tool for you. Plus, if you ever need to convert a PNG file to vector SVG format, there’s no need to download any extra software – just use one of the many online PNG to SVG converters.

Inkscape

With Inkscape, you can create vector images from bitmaps and perform a range of manipulations on them including fills, strokes, renders, transforms, and grouping. You can also add text to your vector objects. If you need to edit raster formats such as PNGs, Inkscape is also a great choice. Among all the free vector editors available today, I believe it is the best one for desktops.

This program is perfect for creating vector objects, and it even allows you to perform various vector manipulations. In addition to vectors, it also lets you edit raster formats like PNG.

Compatible: Windows, macOS, Linux

Vectr

Although Vectr doesn’t have all the bells and whistles as its competitors, it still edits vector files effectively. Keep in mind that while it doesn’t offer a ton of features for vector editing, it has enough basics to get started.

This tool can generate vector graphics and even apply different operations, such as adding layers, borders, shadows, or text.

Compatible: Web, Windows, Linux
