In a new video, popular woodturner Matt Jordan takes his skills to the next level by turning a pinecone into two coffee measuring spoons. The project is simple yet clever and shows off the versatility of this ancient craft. Woodturning is the process of shaping wood using a lathe and can be used to create everything from bowls to pens – or coffee spoons in this case.
In order to turn a pinecone into measuring spoons, Jordan first dries the cone fully in the oven. He then casts it into epoxy, which allows him to shape it into the desired spoon shape. The finished product is both functional and beautiful and proves that woodturning is an art form that can be used to create anything your imagination can dream up. The process is enchanting to watch and very satisfying. At least that’s how I felt about it. The results are pretty lovable and appealing.

You’ll need a lathe, some woodworking skills, and a whole lot of patience, but the end result is definitely worth the effort.
