Tomorrow’s Millionaires Will Drive a ‘Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6’

-

19-August, Stuttgart / Pebble Beach – …or not, as the car will likely self-drive. But that’s not really news worthy considering Tesla cars are currently self-driving a few lucky owners around. However, the level of luxury and retro-futuristic stylings in the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 really make it an out of this world experience.

The Mercedes-Maybach partnership goes back to 2014 when they unveiled a range of superlative S-Class models with the ultimate in luxury and craftsmanship for business and world leaders, culminating in a bomb and bullet proof Guard model.

Those models were based on Mercedes’ existing bodywork, but the pairing have been hard at work with their futuristic goggles on and the result is the concept Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6.

Mercedes designers at play

Recently unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Show in California, the design was shown off with a striking look-at-me royal red paint job, mixing old big-car aesthetics with modern supercar styling. From blinkered narrow lighting bars and a groovy lighting strip all the way down the elongated teardrop rear to pinstripe styling on the running board and tires, no inch of the car has been left unloved.

The gull-wing coupe offers a 700 horsepower electric drivetrain that can be recharged wirelessly. Currently, the makers claim only a 65 mile range, but with rapid progress on battery technology, design and capacity improvements, that could be 200 miles or more by the time of any real world launch.

Welcome to the future

Inside, a futuristic spacecraft feel welcomes passengers, relaxing them with sculpted seats that fit into a light-speed cockpit. The digital dash display is narrow and stretches around the sides to provide an immersive space. The steering wheel is another nod to auto history with a leather two spoke design, with a pair of circular digital readouts behind it.

The leather seats contain body sensors that track vital functions, the car’s system will tweak the airflow, temperature or provide a massage. A lengthy car at some six meters, with amazing wheel trim on the 24-inch rims the Maybach will certainly get the owner noticed, if it ever makes it onto public roads, in the meantime may all your technology dreams be as fulfilling as those of the lucky designers who got to make this beast.
