Risen 3 Preview: We are ready for more!

-

Piranha Bytes is a German game development studio that has always outdid itself by providing quality games. At first, it was the stellar Gothic series that even now has a large cult following and, after that, due to the lack of license for another Gothic game, came a similar title but with a different name, in the form of Risen. Here we also follow the journey of an unnamed hero, in a similar fantasy-medieval world. With Risen 2 Piranha made a unique introduction to the pirate world, but now, with Risen 3, they will go back to the original setting we all loved in their previous games.

The game world will be even bigger than in the previous title, although it will keep the same amount of detail that we have seen in the latest installment. Actually, the graphics engine is still the same, although some improvements in the lightning system and the physics will surely appear, and that is a plus for all of us, as we will get the opportunity to explore an even more realistic world.

When it comes to the aesthetical aspect, the Risen 3 title will combine the tropical and Mediterranean style from the previous titles with a darker, more gothic setting that will surely appeal to the fan of the Gothic series.

The NPCs will also be as vibrant as ever, since they will talk with each other, perform daily chores or even get angry and attack you. You will be able to swim, unlike in the previous title and level exploration will be rewarded.

The story is quite interesting, as you will play a new character, starting at a maximum level, with a great set of abilities but at one point a dark entity will attack you and all you will have to do is to get your soul back as soon as possible. You will also be able to get a character in your team, and he can help you defeat your enemies a lot easier.

Risen’s combat receive a lot of critique during the years, but Risen 3 seems to have learned from the mistakes and that is why in this title you will have an improved and refined gameplay experience where the combat will be both interactive and interesting as well. You will also be able to use magic, which is surely great after the developers removed it from the previous title.

The soundtrack will also be top notch, as the series always spoiled us with some impressive songs that suited the game’s theme. We can only expect some stylish songs alongside some darker, gothic ballads.

Risen 3 will be released on 12th of August 2014 and we have to say that we can’t wait for its release. The series surely needs a reboot after the bittersweet result provoked by Risen 2, and this title might be the one that will be known as the true successor. We can only hope that the game will bring an immense world, tons of quests and an experience that we will never forget!
