Logitech Tightens Grip on Esports, Acquires Beyond Entertainment

-

Logitech_G_vert_BlackLas Vegas, US, May 25, 2018 — Logitech sees a positive future for console gaming and eSports. After Logitech G’s acquisition of ASTRO Gaming for headsets and other accessories, last year, they are now together making a move to buy Beyond Entertainment, an online platform that provides gaming news and a forum for their community.

Buying into eSports, especially on consoles

Beyond Entertainment has been partnering up with ASTRO Gaming since 2014 for various events and occurrences, so they are no strangers. Some of the “core Beyond staff members” are also being directly hired by Logitech G and ASTRO, but confirm to continue the Beyond Entertainment brand and keep supporting the community which they built up since 2012 when they founded the platform.

For the community, this is mostly interesting because the tournament price pools are said to become more attractive with such a prominent backing. Others might feel that they have now lost a source of independent information and updates from the gaming scene. It’s a double-edged sword, and the future of the Beyond community itself is unclear.

Leadership insight

“One topic I’m incredibly passionate about is inclusivity,” said Ujesh Desai, vice president and general manager of Logitech Gaming. “Working with Beyond is a great way for us to help make sure that everyone, even if they can’t play at the professional level, can enjoy being a part of the eSports community. We’re incredibly excited to be working with Beyond and can’t wait to help them take what they’re already doing to the next level.”

“Beyond has always had a specific vision and strategy to contribute to the eSports community,” said Joseph Bentley, Founder of Beyond Entertainment. “By working alongside ASTRO Gaming since 2014, we have not only been able to accomplish our goals but exceed them as well. The Beyond team is thrilled to be officially joining the Logitech G and ASTRO family, and we can’t wait to provide more experiences and opportunities for competitors and viewers alike.”

Terms and financials not disclosed
