Games have evolved along with technology, but that doesn’t stop us from reminiscing on playing games from yesteryears. Some companies try to bring back the nostalgia with consoles dedicated to retro gaming, but there’s something missing that completes the experience. A CRT TV perhaps?
Well, Recalbox wants to bring that nostalgia as close as humanly possible and created the Recalbox RGB Dual, a smart card that allows you to plug in and play your favorite childhood games on CRT TVs.
Bringing back the old-school gaming experience
If you’re the type that hangs around old memorabilia like CRT TVs, Recalbox RGB Dual might be something you want to have. This smart card can clip to your Raspberry Pi so it can use a SCART or VGA output to connect to your CRT TV.

The best part about this is that there’s no configuration required for this to work. All you need is a Raspberry Pi, an SD card, and a controller. Just clip your raspberry pi onto the Recal RGB Dual and you’re all set to connect it to your CRT TV for the complete retro gaming experience.
As with old-style gaming, there are some limitations that you’ll experience as well. While you have SCART and VGA outputs on your Recalbox RGB Dual, you can’t use them simultaneously. That’s because the signal is only compatible with one screen. Apart from that, the device may be incompatible with other distributions, unless those distributions make it compatible with it. Still, most computers and controllers are compatible, and you can play over 70 classic arcade games.

You’ll have to assemble the Recalbox RGB Dual yourself, which, in my opinion, can be a risk for people who do not know how to do it. However, you can download Recalbox on your hardware if you do not wish to build your own.
