Play Games on the Tiniest OLED Screen You’ve Ever Seen

-

The trend is that our gadgets are getting bigger while their convenience is getting smaller. Last week I read that jeans brands are considering bigger pockets to fit the iPhone 6 Plus. That’s one reason I like wearables. They are still small. This wearable OLED display is smaller than small. It’s tiny. It’s the size of your thumb.

Although you might have to squint, this itty-bitty screen allows you to install a video player, download apps, create and play games, track appointments, and even monitor phone calls, texts and tweets.

This little cutie is called TinyScreen, and it’s currently on Kickstarter. The developers were hoping to raise $15,000 in funding. At the time I’m writing this, they’ve already received over $89,000 in pledges. I’d say that’s a pretty good sign that people don’t necessarily want their tech to continue getting larger. Sometimes the best things come in the smallest packages.

Of course, the TinyScreen connects to your smartphone using Bluetooth 4 technology. Even though the default apps work without any programming, it will appeal to techies since the open source app will allow you to customize it if you’d like. There’s even a tiny joystick (and four game buttons) for when you want to play games.

This little wearable gadget is so cute, and I can understand why it’s appealing to so many people. I think it’s the coding possibilities that make it really special though. Everything is open source, and the developers are hoping to build a community of geeks who will develop and share apps, create games and other special projects using TinyScreen.

If you’d like to get one of these for yourself, you can click over to Kickstarter anytime before October 25. Right now, there are TinyScreens available for $55 and up (depending on how much you want to pimp it with goodies).

I definitely want to see what it’s like to play games with that tiny joystick. The developers have even gotten a bit retro. They’ve already created an Asteroids app!
